Disco 2004 TD5 Harmonic balancer broke apart

Hello all,
I was looking forward to the Moore river trip can't make it now. Was driving to the shops yesterday and there was a huge bang and felt like the engine had blown to bits it scared the crap out of me, stopped had a look and the Harmonic Balancer was in 2 pieces and smashed the fan, has anyone had heard of this I have done about 140,000k's.
There were no signs just bang............. Mine is a Disco D2 2004
Has this happen to anyone else ?
Ian

Yes Ian, unfortunately it has happened to a few on here, but is quite rare. Usually a visual inspection during routine servicing can give you a bit of warning, but not always. Bit like the front tailshaft

Ouch mate!
I had a viscous bearing on the way out and it was doing a bit of sqeaking so caught it in time.
Hope everything's ok? I'll be checking my HB...keep us posted!
All the best
Mike

A long time ago I spotted a bit of movement in mine so removed the balance portion. Motor is smoother and no risk of the balancer disintegrating.

Yep, had it happen when the D2 belonged to Dad..
Ironically I had serviced it the day before and he was speaking to me on his mobile 'disco is running so smooth mike....BANG.... hang on.......'

Outer separated from inner and broke the fan....

You need:

Crank Seal
Balancer - NEW, dont be tempted to go reco or second hand
Fan
Possibly new serpentine belt.

Give Stuart a call at Rovacraft... He looks after AULRO guys...
He's a good bloke!
