The guy the gearbox and cruise gear came from is a WA member.
I will get back to him and ask him to post on how to do it.He has the same setup on his D1,my Bro bought the extra spare bits he imported. Will see what I can sort.

I know for certain that the V8s had cruise, because we had a loaner demo while ours got serviced a couple of times and while its a long time ago (13 years now) since we bought ours new I was sure the SE7 tdi we test drove had factory cruise (may have been an auto, cant remember as we tested a couple including an S) and we were offered it as an option, but was not worth the cost. Not sure if it was genuine factory option or an aftermarket option as Gold City Land Rover would kit them out with anything you wanted. They would send them to Opposite Lock Kalgoorlie for many aftermarket options, auto electricians for additions and the local tint company for window tinting. So it is possible it was a non genuine cruise control they were offering.
As I knew at the time I could get the AP60 I think it was from Kmart for $200 was not getting it fitted. Instead a friend had an AP60 unit brand new that he never used and sold it to me for $80. Installation was dead easy, but did take some trial and error minor adjustments to get it right.
Really had no problem with it lacking power up hill. Sure it would slow up a bit but was no real issue.

Just to back up what big3jon was saying, years ago my brother had a '96 300TDi Disco with factory fitted cruise, and it wasn't one of the high spec models either... so they are out there.

My old '96 V8 D1 had factory fitted cruise control as well.

After looking in the workshop manual, I can tell you for sure that the D1's after 1995 came with cruise control in either the TDI or the V8, and for either gearbox.

Prior to 95, I'm not certain.

An important thing to consider here is that "Factory Fitted" & "Dealer Fitted" are two very different things. Often dealer fitted items are non factory genuine, so may still actually be an afternarket kit.

My Bro has finally joined up and when he learns how to use the website he will post whats involved.
System also uses a vacuum pump from a V8 disco,he says the V8s have a seperate pump just for the cruise???? Sounds strange to me.

Not fussed on either an auto or manual, though my personal preference is a manual.

Hiya mate,

I've been meaning to drop you a PM for a while, but keeping getting caught up doing other things. We picked a 1998 300TDI for Jess last week. She really likes it, which is the main thing.

We'll have to catch up soon
