Searching for a New(Used) Discovery

Well it's looks like we've sold our XR8 Ute and the time has come to start looking for a new car for Jess. I've talked her into a late model D1 300TDI. Now I just have to find one. Jess' conditions are that it has to have Air Con and Cruise Control, so I'm guessing it has to be at least an ES model? Not fussed on either an auto or manual, though my personal preference is a manual.

There is one on Carsales, which I'm thinking of having a look at, but thought I would ask here to see if anyone knows of one fitting our requirements that is for sale.

Also for those in the know, what are some things I should be looking out for?

TIA Dannie

Some base model disco 1's had cruise control however I think this was only available with Automatic transmission.

Check for rust around the rear safari windows, inside doors, under bonnet etc. Most D1'S in good condition aren't bad for rust however as they are getting older there is more chance of them being abused. (remember rust problems are repairable, just factor the repair cost)
allow to have the hood lining replaced as it would have probably fallen by this age.

A service history would be a bonus.

If you are buying privatley get a REVS check and have a mechanic check it over.

You wont find a TDi with cruise!!!!
None sold in Aussie Im told.
My Bro bought a cruise setup for his D1 300tdi for peanuts off the guy I bought his new auto box off.
He needs a V8 cruise steer wheel and some of the D1V8 switch gear and wiring from a wreck to complete.
SPOIL HER WITH A D2!!!

I know you know you're stuff, but a quick check on RedBook says the SE7 and LS spec D1's have cruise. At least the '95 and '97 examples I found have (although this might vary year by year).

Maybe the specs on RedBook are wrong? - wouldn't be a first... But here's a screengrab anyways :

Cruise control on a 97 SE7 was an option, but have not seen many with it. We had the SEtdi300 new and from memory it was an option, but an expensive one at over $1000. A generic vaccum unit is all that is required and I happened to get one for $80 from a friend. Worked well, but you will or should get the clutch switch for it as well. Forget that you are in cruise and go to change down like my brother did and you will get a scare.
I would be looking at a D2. Even in a wrecked one they are much nicer than the D1, even though I loved my D1.
I am just waiting for LandyAndy to come down again so I can steal some panels.

I have never seen cruise on any D1's, if they did though not sure if they would be much chop as on hills the car will drop back, have not got much oomph as it is and the driving position does lend itself to just rest your foot on the throttle anyhow.
My RRC's did have cruise and so did my Disco 1 ES V8 but never worked, even after a mechanic spend 3 hours trying to fix it.

Apart from that, go for it, I love mine and am currently looking at diesel gas which should improve range, economy and power as well.

Hey Jonno
Once my Bro gets it sorted I will let you know and you can chat to him.
As far as I know, its an secondhand imported ECU/bellows ex UK from the last of the D1 TDis with the electronics.
He needs a non airbag D1 V8 wheel with the casette and cruise buttons, plus a couple of switches/harness to complete.
If you look in the Quokka, under wanted in 4WD parts for the wheel his phone number is there if you want to call him.Matt is his name.
