It is not on at the moment. After doing the front diff pinion bearings I decide to put the standard one on. Since there seems to be little noise coming from the front, I have left it off for now. Sorting the rumbles is work in progress and I will try a few more things before dropping the RHS of the engine.

Besides above, getting CanDo and the trailer painted is getting closer, just the standard green in case you wonder.
I would like to find out any info about the original fit out. The original side gates had the holes for the two aerial brackets so it obviously had radios fitted at some stage.
I have the aerial brackets, aerial tuning units and the 3 metre aerials. I have a VHF radio that I suspect may have been used. I am still looking for a vehicle mounting for it.
I think the radio was fitted on top of the battery box but have virtually no information on that side of things. If anyone has any information it would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Peter

An image of what you have would help!

    If it's an AN/PRC-77

You need two items to vehicle mount it! The 2060 amplifier and the 1029 mount (which controls the AS1729 ATU)

BTW the 1029 mount also fits the high power VHF AN RT-524/VRC which also controls the ATU.

Of course you do have 24V and the distribution box don't you?

Let us know how the front drive shaft goes.

Are these any help with the radios etc. There seem to be very few inservice 101s with aerials but here is one, plus some additional internal shots of radios etc.

The radio setup is certainly not compatible with the fitment of rapier racks.

    Cheers

    Diana,
I have a GRC160 which you are aware consists of the PRC77 and 2060 amp/powersupply units. I also have two AS1729 ATU with aerial and cables.

What I'm missing is the vehicle mount MT1209/VRC, item on the right, below.

It appears this mount connects to the power input on the GRC160.
Having never seen the MT1209 I am assuming that it connects to the 24V output of the truck.
So now I need you to tell me you have several MT1209 and there is one at a great price.
    Thanks for the info.

    Garry,
Thanks for the pics, first time I have seen them. Is this Oz fitment, where were they taken?

Unfortunately it is impossible to see what the units on the side rack and the battery box are. If the camera was angled a few degrees higher in the pic below it would have told much of the story.

It will good to see your rapier racks fitted, when is that likely to happen?

The pics of the internals were taken at Cooma 2008 in a well known SA restored 101.

The racks will only go in when there is some sort of display to be done as tie down points and other bits need to be removed to fit them in. I need to track down all the other bits that go with the racks like missiles .

Already had a scrappy knocking at my door offering to take them off my hands .

Thought I should do a quick update as I have finally started some body work. Removed the tray, cleaned the chassis and fuel tank. Then sorted the rear bumper. Still a long way to go but looking good thus far

    What a lovely view!

    And now the battery box

For those like me that like to see all the pictures the CanDo website has been finally bought up to date.

The top picture is at Homebush....2 EME services during some sort of open day.
The vehicle would have been one of about 4 101s stationed at North Head.
I use to spend a little bit of time at homebush doing my Reccy Mec training on M816 wreakers, but I never paid any time to 101s on the rare appearences they made at Homebush or 23 FD Reg RAA HQ Battery at Kograh.

note There is no rubber extension flare on the front wheel arch like the South aussie 101s.......most likely the Sydney 101s went though 2 base workshops at Mascot and didnt get the up dates like the South Aussie 101s

As a lot of you already know our good friend PeterP passed away from a very short illness with cancer last month. His Widow, Claudia, has asked us to sell his 101 on her behalf. We have decided to buy Can Do. When we pick him up I will upload the most recent pictures of Can Do, now fully restored to original condition.
