New 101 owner

Just started my rebuild thread. Nothing to exciting yet but hopefully once its back from the galvaniser it will get a bit more interesting.

Warping during galvanising is a common problem and a second problem is rippling of flat panels with thin material such as used on our chassis. Both these things are common occurrences with boat trailer chassis and box trailer monocoques. To reduce warping, some people/companies even go to the trouble of having a heavy section jig that supports the chassis during the galvanising process.

If you do galvanise,

• remember that the process will likely obliterate the chassis number so you may want to take some precautions, having it checked by the RTA/Police before and after the dip or welding a tight fitting plate over it before galvanising that you remove after the dip.
• You will need to check the chassis for square after the dip and if necessary have it re-aligned.

I wonder if BAE systems in Bandiana will tell you who galvanises their Land Rover Perentie chassis?
