So back at it again this morning. Got the other wheel support made and welded on, then mounted the whole lot on the back of Chucky - needed my engine crane to do this, it’s bloody heavy - which is actually part of the design - I was never worried about what this would end up weighing as I need the weight in the back to make it ride better - it’s actually quite smooth to drive with a tonne in the back but that’s only ever happened once, so for the camping fitout I’m actually looking to find weight as I am in the enviable position of having plenty up my sleeve, then some.

Put the tyres on the ground and lowered the carrier over it - please note the winch IS NOT going to live there, this is just for testing the concept - the winch will be an electric unit mounted in the rear tool box just behind the back wheel.

The hand winch and 6mm cable on it did the job very easily so nothing is going to be over stressed doing this. Still have pulleys and bracing to mount for the lifting and support system but that’s another day. Also have the securing mech to make too, but that’s going to fit in easily where I thought it would.
Will be a few days before I get back to it now I think as I have some gardening to do this weekend before getting back to work on Monday.

Dunno what made me think of this but another way of bleeding those callipers would be to unbolt them from the bracket, put a spacer between the pads and position them so the nipples are at the top to let the air out, then bleed as normal, then re-install.Quote:

Like a lot of people, due to Covid, trip plans and work on vehicles slowed to basically a stop for the last 12 plus months. The big 6 week trip I had planned went up in smoke and so did all my leave keeping the lights on when our hours were pegged back, but I count myself lucky during this time as we kept our jobs unlike so many.
Well thought it was time to start back on Chucky so jumped in and checked a few things over before trying to start him for the first time in over 12 months. Found the throttle was stuck so off with the engine cover to sort that - a spray of WD-40 and working things back and forth freed it up easily but in doing so and checking all the linkages, etc one of the little ball joints broke off the linkage that operates the second carby from the first - bugger...
Needed to move Chucky anyway so thought I’d give it a go on one carb. So, after sitting for a year, the battery not on charge and only one carby working, what do you think happened...?
Yeo, fired into life after about 3 seconds cranking and settled down into a nice idle after 10 or 15 seconds and the choke could be pushed right in. 👍👍👍. Gotta love that. 😊👍😊
So went to order a new linkage - A quick check on line showed they were readily available for $60 to $70. Thought that’s a little steep given what it is so had a look for an alternative. Found one pretty quick on fleabay for half the price stocked locally and ordered it. 5 days later (Posted from 65KM away) [bighmmm] it turned up.
Well it’s an order of magnitude better and stronger than the original or the other ones I was looking at and has rose joints, not crappy plastic ball joint ends. Nice and shiny as well although no one will ever get to see it. 😁
Pic below may look like the new one is longer, but it’s just the angle the pic was taken from - it’s adjustable and fitted perfectly.
