    Non standard fuse box locations

I'm planning on fitting my batteries low on the chassis like sitec. I've got a 200tdi and lots of non standard electrics (as demonstrated by my dash) so lots of fuses and relays to protect everything. However I want to minimise wiring backwards and forwards between fusebox (Inc relays) and dash.

Using a modular frame like this with mini blade fuses and mini relays

I planned to put this in the left hand (passengers) footwell so feeds to it would come direct off the starter keeping high current unfused connection length to a utter minimum.

Relays for head lamps and spotlamps would actually be drivers side in standard flasher and hazard relay location on the nose side panel along with the flasher relays.

Any one got any thoughts on location of fuseboard etc when doing non standard wiring? Thanks

You have the same idea as what I did on mine. I fully re wired mine - apart from the rear loom, and I ended up putting all relays and a fuse box up under the passenger footwell. I then only had to run a decent supply from the battery to it and it runs everything.

I still have my battery in its original location. And I have a small fuse box in there too to run the stuff in the back - lighting, UHF and HF radio, terraphone, charger for the ipad, and a small inverter all lives in there with the battery.

Everything is out of the way, and won't get damaged there, and unless you go looking you can't see them, but they are easy to get to to work on if needed.

Here's a pic under the footwell showing my setup before it was tidied up. Already had the discussion on the relays being upside down, you can read all about the in my thread...

Oh, and let's face it - no matter where you put the new fuse box, it is going to be a vast improvement on where the original one was...

Original location was up under the drivers footwell - on the far LHS, right behind the main wiring loom that runs out to the engine/rear of the vehicle. Almost impossible to get too...
