Hi Rene! And welcome to the forum and this section. I've read about a few Tdi powered 101s, and one of the 3 I looked at was a Tdi, and yes, having got used to 5.9 litres of Cummins, I think I'd struggle with a Tdi powered 101. Ok, the Nissan engine I used in my old 101 was a Nissan/UD 5.7 6 cylinder truck/bus engine. They are found in older Nissan and International trucks over here in Oz. they came in non turbo form (FD6), and the Turbo Version was the FD6t. They were a very different engine from the Cummins Im running now as they were much more free revving.. I ran my engine in front of the original 101 gearbox (LT95) but moved it back 150mm and altered the props to suit. (This also got rid of the dreaded 101 prop rumble too). I raised the Salisbury Diff ratio from 5.7:1 to 4.7:1 (rear Salisbury diffs out of Ser 3 LWB, and use your original centers and bearings). I also ran an overdrive, but this didn't like the big diesel, so I'd suggest higher ratio transfer gears in the original transfer box. BUT..... You will struggle to find one of these engines in the UK/Europe as they were only fitted to a very few busses, are old now and probably all long gone.. In my view, you have a few options... Option 1:- Td5 and R380 5 speed gearbox. Tune the Td5 correctly and it will go very well in a 101. (It has been done here in Oz and we are still eagerly awaiting the owner to to come say hi and start a thread about it!!! ;)..). Option 2:- If you are set on a Nissan Engine, then find a crash damaged Nissan Patrol GQ with the 4.2 litre 6 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine. Utilise the gearbox and transfer box, and just mod the props and diff ratios.... (If you wish to retain the full time four wheel drive as std on a 101, use an LT 230 Land Rover transfer case with the 1.222:1 ratio and Defender Salisbury diff centers (3.54:1 ratio.. You will need the center as well, and then fit your center gears to the new diff center). Option 3:- Cummins 6Bt and ZF5-42 gearbox out of a Leyland Daf 45 truck from the UK.. (Cheep at around £1000.... Ok, this is the daft option, and by far the most work, but it'll sound awesome, go like a cut snake, and become a talking point!! Just ask Nick (nrs91) and I!!Quote:
