haha i know what you mean, my stacks are right behind the seats.... abit deafening! lol might put a tiny silencer in... nothing too sound deadening though ;)

Well, there's good news and there's bad... The good news is that now the front prop is balanced, the vibration has gone, and the 101 motors well... Very well! I did 200km yesterday, and most of that was at the freeway limit of 110kph. Fuel economy is good at 12lt/100km. I'm happy with that, but power steering will be happening soon after the Melrose trip... If we get there! The bad bit... I now have a diesel leak coming from the top of the Bosch VE pump... Right where the throttle control arm goes in thru the body. One drip every 4 seconds.... Anyone had the top off these pumps, or am I pushing **** up hill thinking I can fix it myself.. It wouldn't be soooo bad if the engine was in a truck or a Defender, but its the closest part of the engine to the body in a 101!!!! :(

Sounds like the whole package works well.

I don't know much about these pumps myself, but a phone call to a specialist could have the answers you need. Over here in Vic, there is a crowd called BSP Diesel - the guys that run it are both ex Cummins mechanics, and know this **** inside out. May pay to ring them - they're very helpful chaps. Call them on 03 9308 7188. Adam and Steve are the guys. They are always full of useful advice - they're the guys that lent me an adaptor to pull the stuck injector out of the L322 recently.

They should be able to tell you if it is a DIY job, or if you're opening a can of worms.

Cheers Gav. Might give them a buzz. I've been talking to a few of the guys in the 'Cummins Land Rovers' group on FB.. They think its doable! There's also a few good links thru Google when I typed in Bosch VE fuel pump leaking! Gotta love Google!! :p

23mpg... not bad... its about what I get when im driving normally and 'enjoying' myself haha
Throttle Shaft seal replacement on a VE pump can be done DIY but its tricky and fiddly with all the springs in there (perfect time to fit a 3200rpm spring though!)
however i think it will be akin to keyhole surgery on your installation... i would think twice about doing it on mine for sure... i also think youd stuggle to get to the bottom bolt of the pump if you were to remove it to get it sorted
so give the throttle shaft a go buddy but removing body panels might be neccessary...
