So - while I am waiting for the prop-shaft to be replaced...

2 x 150kw solar panels installed on the roof - MY Christmas present arrived:

Controller with 2xUSB chargers and a 1x12v (for the TV):

This 12v is for the fridge... When I save up for one:

The controller is on it's own separate fuse, and so is the 12v fridge point.

In all preparation (hopefully) for next years 5,000km outback adventure!

Well the new prop-shaft has arrived and been installed....

I basically took the old one down to the local mechanic and said: "You must have somebody that you use to replace these.."

Which he did... $500 - I'm happy enough with that... I could have probably saved money and imported one from the UK, but I just wanted to get it fixed...

Time will tell how good the quality is... I took it for a 20 minute drive, and the 101 seems a tiny bit quieter... Although I could be imagining that!

I'm hoping to pop over to the event on Boxing day at Wombat...

PS - Note the exhaust pipe has a tear in it... Is it worth while taking the 101 to an exhaust shop and saying: give me a 2" system all the way through...

I know that one of the exhaust manifolds (I can't remember if it is the left or the right) are impossible to get, and I need to tell the exhaust shop about that... But would a 2" system from the first connector back - improve anything? Or because it isn't 2" from the manifold there isn't any point?

All I know, be extremely careful but touching the manifolds.
Ensure the exhaust what ever it is, will not place any strain on the manifolds.
Ensure the manifold to exhaust pipe nuts and studs are free and easy on the threads before going to the exhaust place, as any excess force used to undo those nuts by someone who doesn't know about 101s manifolds will break the manifolds.
Consider the manifolds to be made of glass, because that is exactly what they behave like.
I noticed a sight improvement with my 101 when the Tee section joining the Two pipes in front of the muffler was replaced by a better flowing Y section.

Yeah, as Ron says - if you get someone to look at the exhaust, they need to be very careful. The manifold are unique to the 101 and pretty much impossible to get replacements for. Standard manifolds or headers won't fit, so it you bust one, its either a repair job, or a customer made set. If the existing exhaust just needs patching, then that should be ok as long as they don't start bashing things around with hammers.

And if you're going to replace the system, look for something bigger than 2".. 2.5" would be my choice, in stainless.. Any doubt with the exhaust manifolds, get the original pipes cut off about 4" back from the join to the manifold and put two flex joints in, and build the gas flowed 'Y' piece from there.

This is basically what I did. New y-pipe made up which flows far better and 2.5" from the y back to the dump pipe. I did ask about the shop making up new pipes to tie in straight to the extractors but the join was not something they could do, or rather do at a reasonable cost.

There's a guy making tube manifolds to the 101 pattern over here, about ?350 a set I recall.

Depending how keen your exhaust fabricator is, a set of laser cut flanges would allow a decent pair of manifolds to be made up, to suit a bigger diameter system the rest of the way back.

    Which Glue?

So I decided that I should give the Harry the 101 a run today - as I haven't used Harry since Wombat on Boxing Day...

I started him up - and there was a loud bang..

Which glue do you think I can use to put this back together?

Oh Dear.... Not only have the fan blades gone - but it took out most of the radiator shroud as well... Oh and I think the radiator has suffered damage, as there is now a coolant leak...
