Here's the old radiator - you can see that it's been damaged in multiple areas:

A new radiator shroud later (big thanks to Sitec), new fan blades, and a new Aussie Desert Cooler radiator later...

    Here it is in place:

It's too early to tell if it will keep the 101 cooler - I will take it for a good run tomorrow.. My previous experience with the 101 is that the operating temperature range is between 80c -> 102c

The 15 minute test drive today (it was 32c outside) revealed temps of 80c -> 92c

I'll take the 101 for a good drive tomorrow and see how it goes...

Here it is all nice and washed ready for the car show at Picnic At Hanging Rock tomorrow...

Well it is a V8, and it is 25+ years old - so why not?

    Cheers,
    GG

Looks nice and shiny. Not at all like mine, but I gave it a tub anyway (well a squirt with the hose to get the cobwebs off)

    See you in the morning.

    Picnic at Hanging Rock

So today Gav, Mick and myself headed out to the car show at Hanging Rock.

I'm not sure of how many cars there were there - but my guess would be hundreds, if not a thousand.

It's mainly old muscle cars - and some very nice ones at that... But some CLASSIC BRITISH cars managed to sneak in!!!

    The stars of the show:

    We found a nice ex-army 2a:

Another Perentie (on full registration with lots of naughty bits still attached):

And a lovely 2 door - which is very similar to mine:

Great day with some great mates.

    Cheers,
    GG.

Yep, great day out. Despite there being 100's of shiny straight machines there, the 3 Land Rovers of ours got plenty of attention and we all spent quite some time spreading the news to interested passers by.

    LROCV Defender Rally

Took the 101 off to the LROCV Defender rally today.

Lots of Defenders, some Series I, II, III, 90, 110 and only 1 mighty 101!!

It was the hotest day that I have ever driven the 101 - I was sweating bucket loads... The viscous fan ran for most of the day (which I've never seen before) - the temp still sat between 82c and 96c...

    Easter & The Grampians

    Hi All,

Warning - picture heavy load ahead...

So SWMBO and myself set off for the Grampians over Easter...

A new purchase... Which strangely seemed to work quite well - we could still hear the iPod pumping through the stereo, but all of the other 101 noises were diminished...

Stopped off in Daylesford for some lunch:

Set-up in the camping ground (note my reading material!):

Then set off for "The Pinnacles" walk... Almost killed me to be honest!

Some heavy lifting from SWMBO along the way:

    More Pics:

The lake ("swimming is permitted but the water is extremely cold"):

And SWMBO driving home - getting in some practice for our big trip in June/July...

The 101 worked a treat - and got a lot of attention at the camping ground.. One Scottish mechanic said "That's the ducks guts!"...

I've learnt that the 101 is truly happy sitting on 80-85... The noise / prop shafts / heat all seem to be happy at this speed.. Averaged just over 25l/100km on the trip...

A lovely weekend with my lovely wife.

    Cheers,
    GG.

    Insulation

So I decided to try and reduce some of the heat from the 101 engine bay...

It has some type of foil / fiber-glass covering the underside and carpet on the top. Here is a current picture:

Stripped off the foil & carpet:

Hours of fun later (and I do mean hours) - here is the new heat insulation installed. If I do say so myself - it's a thing of beauty..

The super-duper sound insulation installed on top (there is a foam underneath the rubber, the foam with the peaks/troughs in it):

And finally - the carpet re-installed:

I will wait 24 hours for everything to dry and then take the 101 for a test drive.. Depending on how well it works, I will look at doing the drivers/passenger foot well as well.

It's a start... Let's see how this works out.

    Cheers,
    GG.
