101 sell or keep

Just one thing about canvass..............I just finish reading Dodges post on the canvas lasting only 5 years.
Before the 101 I owned a CJ6 Jeep with full canvass including doors and after that a defender with canvass back and other trucks with canvass rears.
Quailty of the canvass is important, but the biggest issues is not leave the vehicle out the weather.
If you want canvass to last more than 5 years the vehicle must be under cover.
Moisture and the Sun's UVs kill canvass and the paint work too.
The rear canvass tilt/cover on the back of my Studebaker truck is now about 15 years old, I had it made in rip stop canvass of good quality.
It is interesting to see the canvass areas on it going off area the ones exposed to the afternoon sun under its car port.
It still has another 10 years in it if I look after it.
The canvass in AJs for tilts appear to be made from Indian canvass, not great,but is affordable ,but will it last ???????.

I agree with Ron, try taking a 101 to Bunnings and get in and out to a quick shop - it's an impossibility. :D

I did contemplate selling mine a while ago to fund a 6x6 Perentie, but every time I drive it, those thoughts go out the window. :)

If you're in a position to keep it, then do so IMO - if you sell it, you will regret it at some stage. Take it for a drive and you'll make your decision in no time.

Re the brakes - they are way to adjust, and to change the shoes on. I just stuck new shoes in the front of mine and it stops great again. I've got a dual diaphragm booster out of a D1 in mine though - that's a very worthwhile upgrade IMO.

I think a canvas made out or ripstop would be the go. I had one one my last 110 ute and it was great, no sagging when it rained. I think the only good tilts ive heard of so far are made in England so might price one from there or look at making a hard top with canvas sides. the drum brakes will have to go but, ive done my time with series stuff so am over drums.will need to find out more about when the new disc brake set up will be available.

Cost delivered would be about 1800 dollars Australian in current exchange rates.
The Zeus works well enough and the disk is of a large enough size
( most likely bigger than in a normal cruiser or Patrol)
The disk is a simple design and therefore when tucked inside a standard 101 wheel cannot disapate much better than drums.
What it does do is save adjusting brakes and having a pedal working at the top of its stroke all the time is good.
All stops will be even.
A leaking hub oil seal is less of a problem and changing pads is a snap.
Even when I am going to change out my disk rotors it is not a really big job.
The old ones I will look at carefully and look into locally made spares with cooling and expansion holes made into the rotor.
The pedal force with my standard booster is about the same as the drums.
The vehicle pulls up better with disc and drums well as it better balanced brake wise.
It will interesting to see how having discs all round on my 101soon changes things for better or worse.
What I do know I will not be changing shoes, hub oil seals and adjusting brakes again.

I have a hardtop kicking around at home that I would gladly swap for a tilt frame if you are interested.
