    101 bash plate

Has anyone built a bash plate for there 101? If so pros and cons. Any troubles and photos would be good. If not I might have to go old school and do some CAD (cardboard aided design) and mock something up.

The simple answer is no I havent and I do not know of any 101 owners who have done it. In my experience not really needed for normal offroad use but in large rock areas I could see one being of benefit.

In my 14 years of 101 ownership, the areas I have hit are the bottom of the tanks which is basically a skid plate in itself, the Nokken winch drum which hangs down a bit and the front diff - I have scrapped the fins on the tfr case. I have never hit the engine sump, the gearbox and only touched the tfr case.

What areas underneath would you like to protect?

In practice the steering gear never gets thumped.
The weak point is the front diff cover.
It's sheet metal and pointing forward.
ARB make a excellent cast steel replacement..............designed to take hard hits.
The same cover helps oil sealing and diff strength if doing a diff shave.
I have ARB covers front an rear on my 101 for many years and were fitted after denting badly the front cover a few times.
When doing extreme off road work a jerrycan holder( beside winch ) and bottom of petrol tank can some times be in danger or scrap.
It I s rare and not a problem if you are a where of it...........and only extreme stuff.
Never had a problem with tailshafts as the steep tail shaft angles save them when climbing rock steps..
