I know the transfercase ratios is not a hard job on the 101.
The problem is with 5.57 diff ratios ,going to a higher transfercase will only make a small difference.
Fit a overdrive as it is a 25 % increase in ratio and will be near to perfect .
Going to I think 4.7 diffs kills the motor too much and stuffs the gear ratio spread , including low range.
All this has been tried on my 101.
My current set up is perfect giving just the right revs for the drag of the vehicle beening 2800 rpm for 100 kph.
I dont worry about using the overdrive around town and only use it in top gear on flat roads to save wear and tear on the overdrive.
    So far so good.
Intieror noise is reduced and fuel burn reduced.
I find towing one tonne of trailer on flat roads is not a problem at 100 kph with the overdrive too.
You just have to find a early rangie over drive in good nick.....and that is the problem.

    G day all

Gary= no problems with not having the comp plate.they just take the info of the data plate thats fitted.
Stuart= cheers for the pics. the paint actualy looks good in the pics,in the flesh is a whole different story
Andy= cheers, the challenger was nice bit of gear in good original condition.
Ron=when i get the winch drive sorted will fit the gears at the same time.have to start looking for a overdrive.may be able to find a complete vehicle with overdrive and gas then use the whole lot.

    Cheers gaz

    101 get-together...

Well that makes 3x 101 Ambulances and 3x101 GS's in or around Perth by my count. Counting Merredin as 'near Perth is stretching it a bit but you get my drift...

Hope to bring mine to Perth in coming weeks but have some servicing to do first.

    Cheers

    Phill

    101 get together

    Gday phil

Would be good to catch up and have a chat for sure. just let me know when you are down. ive spotted a white ambulance driving through spearwood but couldnt stop to chat. there was a stretched 101 around but dont know if its still in this state. ive seen a dark green paneled in one with marine windows fitted at whiteman park and thats it so far. ive fitted new seals and bearings to the winch pto so will fit that and the new high ratio gears in the next few days. also will be replacing the diff pinion seals and transfer seals while ive got it on the hoist.

    cheers gaz

transfer gear swap and pto fit

    Gday all

A bit more dribble for you to read
Decided to get stuck in and change the transfer gears and fit the pto lastnight while on late shift. got a few pics this time.the gears have made a great difference and make cruising around town more enjoyable. still have to make brackets to fit the pto cable through then on to the next job of fitting the winch.

    cheers gaz

Dont make the PTO cable support on the transfercase end until you get the overdrive.
The fitting of the overdrive requires a slightly different cable support and it is hard to fabricate it until you get everything in place.
I made mine from 6061-t6 alloy bar bent and filed to shape.

Note the speedo drive cable runs very close under the overdrive and the bracket which holds the PTO cable has a cut away in it for the speedo cable.
It was all done that way so the standard cables could be used.

Also note ( not in pics) my lever from the side of the pto housing where the clevis pin goes through it now has afew extra holes in it to allow better alignment for the slightly repositioned cable.
