.........Just can't quite get the angle right on these pics, the last (no.1530) being the trailer of course...............I'm sure the drums are up front!.
In the middle pic, which is the shot under the front, beside the left spring pack you will see the flexible brake hose that comes from the chassis rail to the top of the swivel hub, which then goes to the brake drum.

To the left of the centre pic you can see the backing plate for the front brakes. This prototype also uses series type springs rather than the production 101 parabolics - the steering damper is looks different.
G'day 1103.9TDI :)
I sent you friendly a PM :):D:D
cheers
jeff in at cairns land rover specialist knows the 101 ask him about it

As I understand it, this prototype was originally fitted with ENV diffs rather than the Salisbury diffs fitted to the 101 production vehicles. In fact it is likely that the early 101 prototypes were actually fitted with standard SIIB running gear and transmission, which probably includes the steering linkages.
The front springs in the pic (apart from the axle being overslung) don't appear to be the Series front springs to me.
The production 101 Salisbury axle assemblies were fitted to 101/7 subsequent to its use as a prototype.

I'm not sure what they are off either, perhaps hand-made for the prototype. The Series forward controls have 13 quite thin leaves in the same length as the normal control Series Land Rovers. However they could be rear SIIB springs with the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th leaves removed. This would give a length similar to the parabolic and suffice for the purpose of the prototype development.
Would be good if we could get some more info . I may ask a few questions on the FC forum in the UK.
On second thought, I just went out and reviewed the rear springs on one of my SIIB, the rear springs are too long to be those used on 101/7, The leaves are the right thickness but too short on the 101 and you can see 4 leaves currently, however you can see evidence of a leaf between current 2 and 3 on the RHS and I could easily be convinced possibly another directly under the bush on the same side.
