This has been discussed at length, but there's approx 2 tonnes of crane on there, which will also take up approx 1.5 meters of valuable living space.... Not only that, I'm guessing its prob worth about $5000... There are plans tho to put the crane and tray on an Ag Trailer chassis, and sell it as a handy tow behind crane trailer...

The key thing that points to its removal is the fact that the truck will change class with a living body on it.... I believe.

There's something wrong with the link. It's way too long for my browser.

    I'm back!

Hi all! Long time no appearance!! Since I was last here, I've been busy!! We have built a house, then built a shed, and now have the two original projects in the shed and under way. Wifetec is working on the Series 2 Tdi that will eventually find its place on an A Frame behind the truck. A lot has changed since you all last saw the truck, but I'll try and post it in order. My last post had me having just purchased an ex mine coach body removed from an Isuzu... I had viewed it several times, but due to a change in sleeping layout and a few other things, our proposed body length of 5m became 6m... This body that I'd decided wasn't what we wanted now suddenly was. However, I wasn't about to pay the asking price of $8500. After some haggling a deal was done at $5500. It may be the right length but its only 2.15m wide, and I can't stand up inside it, so I have some work in front of me. Anyway, here's a pic of collection day! There was some decidedly dodgy crane work getting the body onto our truck, but we managed it without damaging or dropping it!

    Need a shed!!

After an uneventful journey home, the body was unloaded beside where the shed was to be. It then sat for a further 6 months while other things took place, like finishing the retaining, a mates wedding in the UK (back when flying was allowed!!), and of course the start of the shed building, so I had a place to store/hide and build the truck. Once I had poured the floor pads (more on the stepped floor later) I could start the shed framework. It was at this point that I realized that if I didn't get the body into the shed now, I wasn't going to be able to get it where I wanted it! It had to go in before the middle truss and roof went on. This is when the second problem arose... I'd managed to unload the body, but there was no way the crane was going to lift it on its own! Out with all the seats!! With yet more dodgy lifting, the body was back onto the truck, and then into the shed! Once in the shed I could finish the shed and then start to strip the body.

    Bodywork!

Now I had a lockable shed and the house side of things was done, I could finally get into the build. First up was to strip the inside out as I need to lower the floor and widen the body by approx 40mm. Now, a few of you will pick up on and then ask why I've bought a body and am now stripping it apart, when it would have been easier to start from scratch... Well, there's two reasons. The first is that after doing a rough costing, just the steel and glass alone would amount to almost $10000, and I wouldn't have had full length windows. The second reason is that although I'm perfectly capable of working it all out and making it, having a body style to work from with an access door already made, and furniture (hinges etc) that match for other doors, is worth it's weight in gold. I have the style and basis of exactly what I want. It just needs modifying... A lot of modifying!

    And so it begins!
