    Puma rear diff

Just took my 110 in for a 10k service (2 weeks ago)and asked them to listen to the rear diff noise.(its already been changed once) and yes it needs to be replaced again. When asked about replacement times they said I will let you know. After several calls to find out, they dont know when a replacement part will be available.1 Because Land Rover wont tell them or 2.the volcano ash has them held up. I thought these replacement parts were remachined in Australia. I am about to leave on a 3 month trip to WA and I need info from them so I can plan what to do.I received a call to day to say replacement part is arriving soon for someone else and he is booked in for the 5th of May. So if my part arrives who knows when I can be booked in for the work.
I think I might head off on my trip and let Land Rover Assist pay for any problems along the way.

Hmmm - OK - I thought it was a replacement part thing.

Mine has slowly got noisier, especially on overrun. Took it in before Xmas and they said they'd replace it when the parts came from the UK. Still waiting for them to arrive, so the old diff has to keep plugging on.

Must be some horrible supply problem for it to take such a long time, or they can't figure out a proper solution to the issue......

    I'd have to agree.

This is probably the best example of the triumph of the Bean Counters over the Engineers at least in LR terms.

(This also applies to the later model Td5 versions as well...not just the Puma)

Just done our second sals retrofit, 1X2005, and 1X 2004 Defender.

I'll continue to offer this as a solution to a disastrous rear differential debacle.

The other way to go about it is fit a D1 rear assembly, complete with ABS etc as it is just a simple bolt up. I would only do this for 110 though as the D1 diff is only 2 pin (Or fit it with a Tru Trac), I still believe a 130 needs that 4 pin salisbury for robustness.

    G'day Justin,

Could you PM me on the price and what is involved. I have a 05 Def 110.
I would be interested in the sals.
May be coming back over to Hobart in the near future for family reasons and will come and see you.

    Jake
