Puma 09 Transmission Vibration on Highway

They (the dealers) are very good at deflecting and not at detecting. Their skills were honed watching re-runs of Faulty Towers

So the routine seems to be:

1) Sir, this is a vehicle designed to be used on a farm (you should have bought a Range Rover).

2) Sir, you have had a snorkel fitted..... you should take it back to the installer as he has disturbed the settings on the rear tailshaft.

3) Sir, (with smarmy grin) Oil leaks are part of the Land Rover Experience. That oozing from the rear pinion seal, front swivel joints, and that little weep from the steering box is within acceptable limits

167) Sir, your driving style needs to adjust to the perfectly re-engineered clutch, reprogrammed EMU and new bolt in the turbo heat shield

.....

10001) Please will you stop complaining and just go away we've more important things to do....next please

Some times it approaches farce...

Mine has a noise from the rear at 110kmh in 6th when powering on and off. Sounds like the rear diff to me. Quiet under all other circumstances.

The dealer said..."well we can't test that around here obviously" with a shrug of the shoulders. They haven't heard the last of it because next time they are going for a long drive on the M2, M5, M4, M7, F3 and home again. I feel like a drive :twisted:

I'd have to say that I don't like dealing with silk tied and ill fitting cheap suited concierge types at the front desk...I'd rather talk to the bloke in greasy overalls.

is it a mild rattle that can be induced from very gentle throttling on and off???

If so ours did this last time it came out of the garage from the diff over haul and gearbox..

I have learnt to ignore it now..but its quite noticeable on and off throttle with the heavy camper behind. Ian was so angry when he heard it as we had only had the car back 2 days. I hadn't said anything to him as I noticed it from picking the car up from the garage on the long journey home. I was thankful he picked it up though as I thought it was just me being picky

I just cringe when ever I hear rattles now, because i wonder what the garage must be thinking!! as every time the car goes there it has something else I have found.

That sounds like the one.

Maybe I should accept it as a natural characteristic???

After all when it breaks after warranty I can get a proper diff put in.:D

yes when ours comes out of warranty we will save to put LSD's in :)

This maybe unrelated but I have noticed a noise lately, I hear it when I decelerate and slip into neutral approaching lights, it is a clunk knocking noise and it is speed related, it gets less frequent as I approach a stop, I have heard it in gear also doing the same thing, it has only happened half a dozen times, but it is quite loud so I am now getting concerned as it did it twice yesterday.

I have to back in to the LR to get a few things fixed from the last service (20k) getting a new aircon switch thingy to stop the aircon freezing up, and a new Clutch pedal as the current one squeals like hell, I complained and they cant lube it any more so are going to replace it. And a new clock as the light has gone out on it. Asked them to fix my wipers as they jump but they could not replicate the problem, next time I will stand there with a hose so they can see it..


Any ideas about my noise?

Yes, this is a different problem - This noise you are hearing is the hand brake sticking, I believe. And my clutch pedal did the same thing - they lubed it - it squeaked a day later - they lubed it - squeaked again later. Eventually, they replaced the entire pedal and it fixed this annoying problem.

Thanks Scallops, that may make sense, the handbrake was adjusted when it was in for its service, its gone from the 5 clicks back to about 2.5 now. So hopefully it will fix itself or I will get them to look at it when it goes back in.

I felt a bit lame complaining about a squeaky clutch after all it is a Defender.. But it is a 50k defender so think we have the right to complain about somethings, glad I am not the only one though..

Mine went in for a couple of (relatively) minor warranty issues the other day - the clunk relates to the rear diff specifically TB - LD205-002 Audible Click From Rear on Drive Away.

I'll try and get a coupy when she goes back in to get it fixed - unless someone already has access to it?
