Noz another suggestion, if your trying to get it as a company write off have a think about a 3 door 110 wagon and get 4 forward facing individual seats put in the rear along the sides in 2 rows? Would this avoid fbt as it's a 2 door van ? The defender 110 (both 4and 2 door)wagon has a 1t payload(1050 from memory) but this does not qualify to avoid fbt?
Mulgo was just investigating this for me. Apparently it requires getting a crash test performed if it is to be legal ! The seats themselves can be ordered (with 3 point belts) from Exmoor Trim. Daniel - leave it to you to add the detail...
Thanks Gavin for the intro :)
The motor vehicle engineer I normally use for getting my conversions signed off explained that, because it is not a LR factory option any more it would not be approved unless you put a vehicle through a crash test - which seems to me a bit drastic.
At the same time he said that the after market seats manufactured in the UK are not up to AUS standards. The legislations in the UK are not as strict as the ones over here.
But as we all know every state has different rules when it comes to approving vehicle modifications.
Cheers,
Daniel
I found that when the automotive engineers said, 'and it's going to require destructive testing.' It was usually followed by or it needs to exceed the standard by a factor of ten and it's going to cost more than the vehicle is worth.
Enough talking later and they were a little calmer about it.
This conversation wasn't about front centre seats, either, so I suspect it might be a standard engineer conversation.
double post
Daniel
The Exmoor trim one I have for sale has 4 solid fixing points on the base.
Not disimilar to the buckets

I would be happy to send it up for you to check it out. We'd just have to get an AULRO bod to bring it up.
