There are many cars advertised with "factory warranty".
I took this to mean that the warranty would still be current for the new owner.

edit: BTW I've just bought an new defender 130 CS and am very happy with it.
It is just so nice to drive, yet to get serious with any of its capabilities, but hope to soon.

LR factory warranty is transferable to any new owner.....

Should any part of the vehicle require repair or replacement as a result of a manufacturing defect, the part will be repaired or replaced completely free of charge by any Land Rover dealer/Authorised Repairer, regardless of any change of vehicle ownership during the period of cover.

And the extended warranty offered by Allianze is available to anyone who buys a vehicle which is still under the original 3 year warranty. So, as I said in my first post here, this might be a consideration in the equation, in this situation, as put by the original poster of this thread.

So Scallops...is the extended Alliance warranty a factory warranty financed by an insurance company? Or is it like those dodgy used car warranties with plenty of ifs & buts?

I suggest you research both policy options which are available through LR dealers (Allianze and WCA) and make that call yourself. But the Alliaze policy is an insurance policy sold via selected dealers (some offer this one, others the WCA policy)

I am confident the Allianze policy will cover me for anything the factory warranty would have for an extra 3 years. My confidence is based on the many experiences I have heard about concerning this policy (search this forum, for example), and also by the report from MR Automotive concerning the policy, who do all my mechanical work. Better still, MR can do all my warranty work under this policy - chopping out the dealers altogether.

I ‘am like Pommy looking at purchasing a late model defender after I read all this about the need to have extended warranty I start to doubt the quality of the Land Rover product. Is it worthwhile buying a 08/09 model or should I look at a sorted TD5 or should I go to a different make altogether.

Well let's rule out Option C right from the start. That is the path of Satan.
So it leaves Option A or Option B, and it's really up to you. Option B: You'll get a TD5 for a lot less than you'll get a Puma, that leaves a lot of $ for spare parts, a new kitchen and a smaller mortgage, and there are lot of people here who love their TD5 Defenders. But the Puma is a better car and if you have the money to spend then get the newest you can afford.

Good luck trying to find a late model TD5 i have been looking for a few weeks now newest one i can see are 03 , i loved my 06 model so now not sure what to do .
