Jake,
Can't send you a photo of it installed as I haven't done it yet - waiting till I need to change the coolant as I don't want to go through the drama of bleeding it unnecessarily.
The adaptor plate goes on to the side of the engine block where the top hose connects - have a look and you'll see there is already a triangular hose connection (containing the OEM temp sender) bolted to the block already. The adaptor plate bolts between this and the block. That's why you'll need the longer bolts. I made a couple of gaskets to go either side of the adaptor as well because the machining on one side of the plate doesn't look too great.
The bolts are just hex head bolts - what thread I don't know - I just asked some fella who knows his stuff for three longer bolts for that purpose.
The tapped transfer sender plug will (should) go in the transfer box drain plug hole but I'm not sure I have the right one as it looks a little small. Not overly bothered with the transfer case reading though as I don't tow.
Coolant temp and transfer temp are on my to do list, fitting up the coolant level alarm is on the MUST do list and EGT and oil pressure are on the done list.
Glad I did the EGT because before I reckon I was flogging the vehicle a bit hard.
Ian.

Hi Ian,
on closer look at the Rave Cd and on the actual TC case i found there is a blank bolt designed for a temp sender. it is 14mm .
though i wonder how effective this is for oil temp as it is higher than the fill plug, or is the air temp in the case enough to go off?
i will have a look at the drain plug and c if it fits there instead.
i am planning on doing a coolant change/fit sender and whilst there clean radiator/intercooler, take off manifold and place probe in the centre pipe, EGR removal/blanking , wire in the EMS2 , fit to dash and have been thinking about trying to turn the EGR heat transfer into a water heater.. has anyone done this or give me tips on how?
or maybe i should just remove it altogether and re route the hose back to the radiator..
if anyone has any thougthts on this matter i'd like to hear them
thanks
Jake

well,
I bought it and after a bit of mucking round got it installed fit in well with the few jobs i had to do on the Defender. remove EGR, cleaning radiator and intercooler.
fits perfect in the dash. \
the coolant temp adaptor has changed from the madman website - no longer the sandwich type, so had to cut into the pipe. still need to add an earth to it as i'm getting some very odd temps - from -18 to +14.
Transfer case - i have put the vdo in a blank bolt quite high up but i'm not happy with the placement and accuracy , so next oil change will put into the filler plug (drain is too exposed)
but a few problems i need help with:
i already had a low level coolant alarm in, but thought it wouldnt hurt to hook the new one into it - it did . seemed to trigger the old one some how. so have diconnected it for the moment.
but now the new one continually warns me that coolant is low. i have it set up off the plastic tank. bottom screw is earthed and top goes to ems2. can anyone think of why its telling me coolant is low when the water is covering both screws? or do i need something else wired in too?
on my first test run(to drop the missus to the airport) the intercooler hose popped off, luckily Tod had told me a similar story (has an interesting sound)so managed to put it back in in the dark with the clock ticking. but i thought that it probably wouldnt have damaged the turbo driving with no pressure> ? does anyone know if this is correct?
but in all of it have learnt loads and a big thanks to Tod (rimmer) for getting me out of trouble a few times. and Jan at Nata has been on the email answering all my questions.
but i really am noticing the EGT temp rise with my style of driving and easing back off a bit.
i would like to know parameters to be aware of such as EGT average and high temp?
Coolant running temp and max temp?
Transfer case running and max temp?
will post pics when i work out how to attach them

Check out this thread....
Mad Man
I had the same questions when I fitted mine. You should find some answers there.

Anyone fitted the rectangular version, and have photos?
Both shapes have the same functionality don't they?

I was doing a search on the MADMAN product and saw this old thread I thought I would add to.
Here is a pic below of the one I am thinking of adding to the PUMA.
NAKS (a forum user on AULRO - thanks NAKS) posted that Madman EMS system monitors EGT, coolant temp & level, oil pressure, transfer box oil temp, voltage. Everything has an alarm level which you can set and will go off as soon as the threshold is reached.
Since it is a couple of years later since the last post, I am thinking that there might be a few more people who have added this accessory.
My questions are:
1. How useful are you finding it?
2. Which business fitted this to your Deefer and were you happy?
2. The EGT data is what I am really wanting, along with coolant temp - do I need anything else measured not mentioned above?

sVX37,
In answer to your questions:
1. Very useful, almost indispensable, makes treating the engine kindly become second nature.
2. I fitted it it was not too difficult a job on a TD5. I was very happy.
2. (Because you have two 2's) coolant level alarm could be an engine saver well worth fitting.

As Ian says, indispensable.
When I drive to work in the morning, I set the display to coolant level. I drive like a granny until the water temp is 90-91C.
Once the engine is up to temperature, I switch to EGT, and then only do I give it horns. It is amazing how driving to the EGT changes the way you drive

I'm needing help and suggestions how to fit the Auto Tranmission temp sensor. The addaptor provided by Land Online is too big for the sump and too small for the filler plug.
Help Please.

Great old thread fellas.
Hopefully this unit is still the one to get, as I was about to purchase two 52mm Redarc EGT and Oil temp gauges, but mounting them in the limited dash area available is a problem.
Any comments re the two options, I.e Redarc vs Madman?
Ta.
Ken
