get a disco one, just change the sender over to your fender one,, of the gadge will be out,, for sum resion IDK the disco one is cheaper???, stuped i no, and there the same pump![]()
I've had it
How hard can it be to get a td5 fuel pump thats not worth a small fortune (may have to sell one of the kids) .
Rang around and nothing under $700.00!!!!!It's plastic not gold plated.
The Def's been off the road for 2 weeks now and not getting any closer to being on the black stuff again (if only I was made of money).
I'm going into the business of making plastic fuel pumps and selling them really dear.
Cant even get my hands on a good second hand one.
Ok I'm done venting, any ideas send them my way![]()

Hi ericpicc
I ended up in a similar position the week before Easter this year in Auckland. The only fuel pump I could find was a genuine one at NZ$ 1490. So I arranged to return the pump if I did not open the sealed plastic bag. As I had found oil at the red plug as well & could drive around as the fuel tank was full. Was looking for dodgy wiring/ relay. After removing the fuel pump & confirming it was dead I found a VDO logo on the pump. This lead on to downloading the fuel pump catalogue & cross referring a generic VDO fuel pump to the Land Rover part No.
So I ordered a Allmakes own brand (wfx000260) from LRdirect in the UK. For Pounds 98.68 + 19 postage. I got this inside 10 days. On carefully taking apart the new pump housing the heart of the pump was slightly different & I was unable to confirm it was a VDO Pump but it went in anyway. The injection molded parts looked like they had come out of the same tool, as the pump I had removed. Hope you have enough information to make your own decisions.

Sorry but un sure from your post, did you fitt the Allmakes pump as a direct replacemen (plug and play) or did you take the guts out of the Allmakes and transfer it to you broken pump?
If its a direct replacement or simple modificaton what a great find?
Does anybody know what the actual differences are between the Defender and Discovery pump sender units?
If its only the float arm, then I think you might be able to swap them over if not the whole sender. I'm trying to find a pic of when I welded mine for the long range tank to see if it comes off.
Here we are - it looks like it just clips out and will swap over. Perhaps the whole sensor aswell???

Like first post the level senser just clips down. And change the wire. It dosent mater witch way round they go.. and there is one other diff witch ontop of the pump there is a stud ontop the pump that dose nothing on eather disco or fender.. to take the pump apart its just all cliped to gether..
Hi Scott
The unit as I got it was a direct replacement. I only took it apart to see if the electric pump inside was a VDO unit, as that was the important bit to me. My logic was, that its a bit to fancy a pump to easily copy correctly. So probably comes out off the VDO manufacturing plant in Germany & fitted into different swirl pots for different vehicles. Plus also sold as complete units to aftermarket parts suppliers to put there own name on.

To clarify, a VDO pump has just turned up. I assume VDO/Seimens is the manufacturer of the OE pumps as this is not actually labelled with Land Rover.
Looking at the Discovery TD5 VDO pump I have here, there are visible VDO stampings all over it. The very top is stamped VDO, the pump inside it (visible from outside) has VDO stamped on it next to the wire terminals and the senders potentiometer has Siemens VDO printed on it.
The Disco TD5 part number on the top is 228-226-004-001Z and then the VDO marking. Interestingly, the part number that you have from Allmakes is very close to the part number that Karcraft use which is WFX000280. It is labelled by Karcraft as an <A> part which indicates that it is either a genuine part or manufactured by the genuine or OEM supplier. The Defender TD5 part WFX000260 as used by Karcraft also has the <A> suffix. So, between that and no VDO markings on your pump.... who knows!
