Diff lockers in Defender?

it will be interesting to see what LRA do with all cars being sold in Australia requiring Stability Control at some point in 2011. South Australia is jumping the gun I think being the first state to bring it in April 2011.

The 130 might get ABS and Traction to work along side Stability. Stability strikes me as a wast of time in a all wheel drive vehicle. But then again it's something else for LR to add quirks to.

Factory diff locks, now that would be an option, something more sensible.

Victoria is first with that legislation, comes in start of 2011.

130 isn't a car, so won't be an issue.

my defender came with diff locks as well as centre diff lock.........wonder if the previous owner install them or they were factory

Sorry BigJon, it does apply to all 4WD as well. I note from the Website (ESC vehicle status : VicRoads) that the Defender is not on the Certified (of course not!) or Exempt list (interesting that the Patrol is exempt).

My reading is that if you want a new Defender in Victoria you have less than three days to get it or plan a move interstate! :o

The 130 is exempt from needing ABS (GVM too high?). I imagine it would be automatically exempted from the above rule on the same basis. The defender is not on that list, which seems to mean the application has not been processed - did you read this:

If the patrol can get an exemption, then I am sure the 90/110 can as well.

AFAIK no civiilan defenders came with factory fitted difflocks either stock or as an option...

what do the switches look like? how do you know when they are engaged or disengaged?

The defenders are classed as a commercial vehicle which is why they dont BOTHER fitting child seat bolts for one thing, much to the frustration of numerous owners who want to carry their children around in it who are under 7! This is also how they will more than likely get away with not having ABS or stability on their wagon/D.cab.

I bet the last owner used factory switches to activate aftermarket lockers, some prefer/try to keep a factory look

Umm. Even if it was classed as a car it would not need abs or stability control.
But it would need air bags.

New rules in Vic for 2011, all new cars require stability control. It will be nationwide in 2012.
