Puma part availability

hey Symo,
had the same issue with a failed high pressure fuel pump 41/2 weeks to get part from england because 'this never happens'. It makes no sense for a car to be sold in this country and not have every part for that vehicle available in spares. And as for being ford parts, I had a leaking manifold seal which is a 20 cent O ring. LR don't have the seal available alone only with the whole manifold,ford have the seal available alone but because it was a warranty issue the whole manifold was replaced. I'm not whingeing, and it was fixed straight up,but some things with LRA just have me scratching my head. Think its' hard to get parts now wait until they are coming from India

I understand most of the LR family is improving in quality and the support provided as these cars are the future of the company. The poor old Defender is being legislated out of existence hence the lack of R&D and quality improvement the others have (Disco and Rangie).

I know this is off topic somewhat however this is why I brought a Defender now, soon you won’t be able to buy a new one. The new Defender I understand is a freelander with a low range box and a few other “bits” to make it a bit tougher but it won’t be the car the current Defender is. How sad - a defender soft roader..... :(

And lets all guess as to the size tyres it will have,no,no,don't wanna complain,before it even arrives.....:p;)

On the plus side,it maybe the mid sized family wagon the world is waiting for.....

The amount of quality control that has gone into the Puma,which hasn't improved since it appeared in "07,makes me think LR are just not interested in that type of vehicle at all.This bad reputation will only continue to give the company a bad name.:(

Spot on symo, That's the exact same reason I bought my defender.It was a case of jump in now before they are legislated out of existence. Lets just hope that the new defender is not a soft roader as it will be a sad end to such a traditional sturdy vehicle.

Land rover has told me the car is ready to be picked up today!!!

While there i got a service and a few small things fixed - wipers would not self park all the time, overflow from the tank when filled etc.

The ECU didnt take as long as they told me - maybe they did hear of fedex???

Went and picked the car up at the dealer after waiting for the ECU to be replaced. "She's all right, just parked out back" said the dealer as he handed me the keys.

With a song in me heart I went and climbed into her - a soothing and comfortable place..... inserted the Key, turn and crank but no start.... WTF... I was looking for the camera "smile" thinking this has to be a set up.

Walked back into the dealer office - told them it still wont start - "your kidding" said the dealer - we have tested it throughly and its been fine for us" "Well" I reply "its not fine for me"

Dealer comes out - cranks and no start....

Hmmm after some splinters in the fingers (from head scratching) and mucking about under the drivers seat we find a loose fuse bar in the fuse box. (gravity is not reliable aparently for keeping a fuse bar making contact it seems) a quick turn on the phillps head screw to tighten the fuse bar and Zoom - away it goes and has not missed a beat since.

Im still looking for the candid camera - this cant be real.

On a positive note. The dealer was GREAT. I dont think its their fault. They replaced the MCU withou looking further as thats what LRA told them to do. Fitted the ECU and it starts so they think all is good. why look further, before new MCU no start, after new MCU starts....

In a past life I was a diary farmer and never had any trouble in my work, especially knowing which end to start first at!! :D

Then the planets aligned and Grandfather deamed that Dad should sell the farm. :o So I ended up for a while repairing TV's for a living :mad:, but I had trouble. :(

The moral to this story is that;
When repairing anything electronic, stop. Then start fault finding at the other end, as you always begin at the wrong end first. :confused:

I got my truck back today. New ECU and software etc. I haven't had a chance to try it properly but I swear driving it back home it was quieter and pulled away better in second and third. Also seems the gear change clunk is gone but that may be wishful thinking.
Going for a good drive tomorrow so will update.

You too portafilte, I thought I was going mad when I notices such a vast improvement, it does pull a little harder but I REALLLYYYYY notice the clunk between gear changes has gone.

It was never that bad for me and I am verycarful with my changes to minimise the clunk bust since I have had the new ECU fitted i have not had one clunk in 1k of city driving. From 3 or 4 a day (150ks) to none that I can remember in 1K driving - vast improvement.

I really notcied that the clunk had gone so i assumed that they either tighned something up during the first service OR the new gearbox oil has banana skins in it or my driving skills had improved (naaa). Never though the ECU would have done it.

Hmmmm food for thought....
