They do hav smaller weaker cv's so that might be the reason either that or to save On tyre ware or just lazyness

How exactly are the CVs weaker on the Puma compared to the td5? Are they smaller?

Can one replace with bigger/stronger CV's?

The CVs are smaller and weaker with smaller diameter halfshafts at the CV end than 200TDI Defenders and earlier Counties.
You could fit the standard earlier cvs, spindles, hubs and drive flanges to std non "Extreme" TD5s and 300TDIs but you would lose the ABS sensor ring .I think Ashcrofts heavy duty replacement CVs retain the ring though.

Wagoo is correct ...the abs ring is needed otherwise there will be abs problems which u don't want the new cv's are tiny compared to county cv's and are also shorter from what I can remember so hence having to change what wagoo said.
speaking of cv's I was talking to a guy from MRautomotive while talking about hytuff axles for my county I asked about upgraded cv's his reply was "is your cv's in the county original? Yes ..well in that case if they are not worn and are in good condition just replace front axles and everything will be fine"

U turns are actually 4 turns

3 right hand turns and then 1 left

just depends how big the street 'blocks' are as to how long that takes

who cares - you are never in a hurry in a Defa

The Defender doesn't have a turning circle..... it has a turning arc.

If you check out the specifications on the official LR site every other model's turning performance is measured as a diameter...the Defender's is measured as a radius (because 7.18 sounds better than 14.36?).

There are a few roundabouts around where I live that require either a 3 point turn or a radical use of the concrete to get around. This can be disconcerting for closely following motorists.

Suggestions that the CV joints in Pumas are no good has been raised in several posts in this thread. Last August I posted the following:

I don't read every post on this forum but suggestions that there is a wide spread problem with the Puma universal joints is new to me (I also frequent the more global www.defender2.net forum). The only common thread I am aware of is that there is a problem associated with the uni joints and aftermarket suspension alterations. How many people have had uni problems with original suspension and how many people haven't had their problems resolved under warranty?

There were no replies. So again, has any one had any problems with with their CV joints, with original suspension?

    Cheers

    Karl,

    I haven't had a problem.

Where and how I drive probably wouldn't test the CV's to their limits though.

Please enlighten me as to how a suspension lift has an effect on the constant velocity joints in the front diff?
