    New TDi owner

    Gday,

You might remember me, I wrote to you awhile ago about my test drive in a 110 TDi I was thinking of buying. In the end I did decide to buy it and whilst it hasnt been love at first sight its definitely growing on me.

Its still noisy as hell but I noticed that after a while you kinda stop noticing the noise. Go figure? My feet got soaked the first time I drove it home through a thunder storm, but that made me grin. Its a good truck and its been really well looked after for all of its life.

I have heaps of questions but Ill string them out over time rather than all at once.

    1. Tyre Pressures. If you are just blatting around on the highway, without any great load on, what tyre pressures do you all run? Particularly if you were looking to get the best fuel economy you could. When I picked mine up it had 35psi in all the wheels, That seemed really low to me. I've pumped them up to 45psi and wondered if there was any advantage to going higher?

    2. Filters. Is there any advantage to using genuine LR filters (oil and fuel) at service time. AFAICT mine has always had genuine filters installed. I live about 2 1/2 hrs from a LR service centre so I would have to get filters shipped adding to the cost. Can anyone recommend good aftermarket filters and where I can get them at a good price.

Ive learnt a lot from this forum already so thanks to you all and I am sure that when I get challenged by my Landy I know where to come for advice and support.

    Cheers
    Jonathan

Mate, running around empty I have around 32-34 psi in my tyres, more if I'm loaded. Higher pressures will only give you a harder ride. I wouldn't buy genuine filters. I think you'd only be wasting money.

Wet feet is not a fault. Its 'character'.

COOPERS is the most usual after market filter supplier.

I would say tyre pressure would differ slightly with size. If your running standard 7.50 x 16 or something different. I have 235/85/16 Maxxis with 40 psi f/r and its fine on bitumen, grips well and wearing evenly but I'm also carrying a fair weight (winch, twin batteries, fridge, roof top tent, etc). Its not a daily drive and is set up to just jump in and go camping. For a more standard machine, I'd agree with Wally: around 35 psi.

    Firstly congratulations on your acquisition

As they are a European manufacturer you will need to find a "landlocked" retailer. Where are you located?

I was able to get mine locally in Sydney from Graeme Cooper (no relation)who services Land Rovers.
