I found it easier to tap into the power cable at the reversing light itself & run the cable back to the camera along the top of the chassis.
Howdy - I'm a novice when it comes to wiring - well all things car related really - but willing to have a go. I can't afford to pay the local auto elec (who is not in my good books anyway).
I need to pick up a reverse feed to tell my new rear view/reversing camera system when to switch cameras. Where is the easiest place to pick this up? From what I can gather I need to tap into the green/brown wire from the gearbox switch running to the tail lights - is that right? How do I get to the switch given it is on top of the box? Is there some access point through the cab floor?
I also want to pick up power when the ignition is on - thought I could just tap into the ciggy plug wiring is that the easiest? Is there another preferred method?
Thanks in advance - Tim

I had mine wired so I have to turn it on or off.
This emables me to see out the back irrespective of reversing or not. Aslo put a camea on the front as they are so cheap. It's easier to pull them all through at once rather than go back and do it "agan".
The active wire for mine was run into the dash. Given you're going to have to take the camera feed into the cabin why not pick up the reversing light active from the fuse.
Again I'm no exectrician by a long way so there may be good reason why this would not work?
I have a 130 cab chassis with a tray back fitted with a canvas canopy. It is impossible to see through the plastic windows on the canopy so I replaced my rear vision mirror with a similar sized camera monitor. The camera is fitted in the rear of the tray and the camera feed runs along the chassis into the cabin floor near the drivers door and up the pillar behind the plastic trim through the head lining and exits to the monitor where the original rear view mirror was mounted. The unit is wired to the ignition so it is on all the time and operates as a rear view camera. With the standard defender side mirrors fitted with an additional fish eye mirror each side I have no blind spots at all. Essential when driving with the canopy on. The monitor is only slightly bigger than the original landy mirror so does not intrude on forward vision.
