In which document does Land Rover Australia specify Castrol SLX Professional OE is the official oil for the Puma?
It would help if you read spudboy's posts carefully

I was just passing on what both LR and Castrol had told me after a number of phone calls. As I said at the end, I have no idea how they can check that.
Especially the last 2 words in the bolded sentence.

I doubt LR specify it anywhere in consumer info/literature. They don't want you to change your own oil.

I don't appreciate your assumption making attitude but my query was not addressed to you so I won't argue the toss.

I was hoping the OP may have access to further information to support the statement, "If you want to keep your warranty, you have no choice. You must use that oil. That is the only spec that LR accept for the PUMA engine."

Without documentation, any verbal advice from LR or Castrol as to the required oil specification amounts to hearsay.

Hey Ace - apart from the original quote from the Adelaide dealer which specified the oil they were going to use I have not seen any doco to support this. Am only passing on what I was told by the LR tech at the Adelaide dealer, who said I had to use that oil. Castrol confirmed by phone that this was the only oil they support for this engine (apart from up-speccing to the Edge stuff).

I think you are thinking about it too much.

Use the Castrol stuff that seems to be reccommended by at least one LR dealer, or use something else.

My dealer pretty much told me what they told spudboy.

Now if I could just find those verbal agreement forms I have stashed somewhere...

I took my own 20lt drum of SLX Professional OE oil to the LR Dealer for it's first service - they used my oil. The workshop manager said that is exactly what they use.

I'm also a Castrol agent/reseller of lubricants for our Unimogs - and when I spoke to the tech guys at Castrol asking what oil to use, that is the oil they specified and sold to me.

    oil changes

I know the thread is about oil types, but seeing we are all so passionate about oil.......Just out of curiosity, how often are you guys changing your oil? Are you sticking to the 20,000km landrover manual spec?
