    Canopy advice

Thinking about a canopy for our Big Lap. Not sure whether to put one on the tub, or get a tray and put one on that.

I'd like it to be waterproof, and also as dust-proof as possible. I imagine a tub would be easier to make dust-proof, and was wondering how dust-proof canopies are - fibreglass vs aluminium.

    Anyone have any info?

I'm looking for exactly the same thing - anyone out there?

I like the idea of a bolt on canopy for the tub, just for ease and so I can take it off for the odd times where a ute is more 'handy'.

Whilst they're a bit expensive, I like the idea of the lift off trays from Jack Off Ute Accessories and Ute Trays - Brisbane Ute Accessories, Brisbane Ute Trays. They look very water/dust proof, and you can leave them just about anywhere.

I have a 'bolt on' canopy on my ute tub and its aluminium and its VERY HEAVY - not an option to "just remove when a ute would be handy" unless I had a block and tackle haging off the shed roof and suitable attachment points on the canopy. And i have neither.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I will be getting a canvas canopy to sit on top of my hcpu tray down the track. yet to sort out someone to build me one but I imagine they will be able to attach it using the existing holes in the top of the tray sides.

the trick to getting them to be dust proof is pressure! in the front of the canopy you put a couple of little windows which will let air in as you drive along. this puts pressure in the canopy and stops dust from getting sucked in. the windows have a flap so they can be closed if it rains.

the only way dust should find it's way in then is if you drive stupidly close behind someone on a dirt road.

I would settle for the cab to be dust proof I am looking into canopy options myself. I was just going to go with canvas as it easy to remove

it's looking like a canopy is the first major thing we will do to our defender.

will properly happen within the next month. just need to get some funds together.

will post pics up of the finished product as well as the bare frame b4 the canvas gets put on.
