    Dave,

    Excellent idea!

I think there might be a queue about to form.

Dave my Puma is still in warranty. However being aware of this issue like
many others I,m already looking for a once only fit and forget solution.
What about 35 spline 4340 for the front at the same time.
I think the it is not worth the money to repair the original centre spiral driven!

Excellent solution Dave, I've been fiiting salisbury 'plows' to them but I like your idea better.
Are you seriously thinking of production then???

Re salisbury axle, is it just a bolt in with a shorter prop for a puma ?

this is a very very common problem in the late 110 rear axle, and the issue as I see it is that the diff is just too small, I like the idea of making a bolt in upgrade :

new ring and pinion, make the pinion 50mm longer, to get the bearings further apart, less leverage and load on them,
shortened rear prop, (salisbury may fit to keep it stock LR)
make new hypoid casing, about 1.5" offset, low pinion, loads stronger
35 spline 4340 halfshafts, (never break)
    air locker as standard
new stub axles, machines hubs and new bearings due to bigger shafts
    new 10 bolt drive flanges

You can spend half of that on an ARB and 24 spline HD shafts and the diff is just as weak,

    what do you think ?

Dave, is this the "force 9" you have been working on?

is the "Puma" diff different to a normal rover diff? ie classic rangerover or defender 90?

    cheers,
    Serg

    Yup

Obviously if you have a 110 then an ABS sals needs to be sourced to make it easy, but a 130 sans ABS can be fitted up with a sals from 1994 on

    Hi,

the front is much harder and much more expensive to do, also we can get these quite reliable with the existing range of HD shafts and CV's, generally fine for upto 35" tyres but the rear is a different story, they are proving not to be reliable for stock vehicles so I think theres a much bigger demand to get the rear diff sorted, rear shafts are less of a problem but may as well be done at the same time, so as you mention it's, fit and forget,

    Hi,

yes the salisbury is the easiest upgrade but they have their disadvantages :

    heavy
    getting scarce
    lower ground clearance
    hard to rebuild

the force 9 axle has taken us a long time to develop and is nearing completion and we have learn't a lot along the way, as soon as this is out the way which will be very soon, with the stuff we have learn't and the new fancy CNC mill arriving next week would make this project quite feasible.

I have not decided 100% yet to make it but I can see how to do it in my head and if there's market demand which I think there is then yes I think it would be good, may also sell to the military market as they also have similar problems with these axles,
