Unhappy Rust and rusty doors :(

Ahh i've been let down by my rust problems. I've just picked up a 93 200tdi and it seems as if the previous owner parked it in the ocean or something.

I just received my rego in the mail with the INSPECTION REQUIRED insignia. I took the beast down to a Land Rover specialist today who gave me the "Hmm, good luck with that", then I took it to a panel beater who gave me the "That's gonna cost ya a few"....

I've attached some images so I can hopefully get some advice and help others with the same problems. All the doors with the exception of the drivers door seem irreparable. Where can I find new doors and how much am I looking at here?

Would anyone have any clue as to how to remove the rust on the door seals?

There is a sample pic below - I've uploaded 6 or so pictures to this link: http://imgur.com/a/lqXvC

    Yours Sincerely,
    A very upset Deefer Owner

If that is the worst of it it should not be a RWC fail.

However you need to spray it with rust converter, followed by either lanotec or fish oil to stop it progressing.

The sill is one piece with the pillars - so a fair bit of effort if it needs removal.

I just had someone repair my doors for $30/hr - shame you aren't in Brisbane as he is willing to do more.

It might be worth driving it up to Brissy for prices like that and pitch a tent somewhere :P

You can buy a plastic disk for a 2 inch angle grinder it will take all that surface rust off so you can see just how bad it is ,the plastic wheel won't take away any of the sound steel but go gently tell you get a feel for it then see what is next whether its replace or just treat, fill and paint
I have the same type defender

Good advice - it doesn't need to be “show” standard, it just needs to pass RWC.
