Depends on the application? IIRC one is more suited to off-road conditions, i.e., slow speeds, high loads, etc., while the other is more suited to high speeds.

not sure which applies to which though

I've only got the in dash temp gage, so no real difference in the needle position.

That is not to say it actually went either way, up or down.

Dash gauge is hopeless - it seems like it is programmed to read in the middle of the gauge anywhere from 70 degrees to 110 degrees - when it goes over 110 degrees, it swings up into the red very quickly, and the ECU shuts down.

I used the open fin design inter cooler - one thing I have noticed is that the boost pressure is lower going up the same hill at the same speed, which hopefully means less fuel. Temperature seems the same, but won't know until it gets really hot.

Here's a picture of an Allisport intercooler next to the standard TDCi intercooler, the Allisport would be twice the size of the standard one. (Sorry about the poor image quality!):

The larger intercooler doesn't seem to make a huge "seat of the pants" change in power, however the 110 seems to run a bit better during the hot days here in Perth.

I phoned Allisport about the fine fine/fast road vs corse fin/off road, they said I would have trouble picking the difference between the two when they were fitted to the car, and that some companies use the 2 types to "aid with marketing" more than anything else.

    Cheers,

    Tim

I want to know how you persuade your wife to let you bring in the dirty engine parts into the lounge

I went with the Alive tuning one basically because it is about $120 cheaper ( direct from England) and had good reports on the Defender2 site. Shipping was really fast, I ordered it on Thursday evening, and got the intercooler on Monday afternoon.

It's very simple, I don't have one (And the dog doesn't care what I do so long as it gets fed and walked )

    Cheers,

    Tim

PS The dishwasher is great for washing parts too
