Easiest way would be to add a light onto the roof that had a switch on / near it... then turn it on and off manually.
Time to sort out the interior light on the County ('85 110). I'm getting tired of getting home and having to get out the torch to find my stuff in the dark.
The light used to work via the switch (but doesn't now), and from what I can see it doesn't have any door switches and no sign of them being fitted in the past.
Whats the best way to sort out an interior light that comes on when I open the door? Should I just get some door switches off a later defender and wire them in or is there a better way?

Attach the torch to your keyring, then you don't have to get it out of the console to find your stuff
Door switches.....in a County???????
next you'll want Central Locking....
Usually the contacts on the switch corrode, so it may just need a light cleaning to get it operational again. worth a punt.
Otherwise just replace the switch, its easy to access and easy to find.

I have an 85 County that does have door switches! I have spent many hours trying to sort out a problem where the interior light goes on and sometimes stays on if I go around a LH corner! In the end I took off the end of the dash console, found a positive wire and added a little Jayco switch to the dash....and now I switch on and off the light whenever I want to!!
This works well as often you don't want the light to go out when you close the door, or you don't want the interior light on when you open the door. Primitive but effective.
Standard 85 County does not and never did have door switches. If you want to add these it should be fairly easy to get suitable switches from any auto place, but probably involve a fair bit of work - I have often thought about it but never done anything because it looks like a bit more work than it is worth.
The original switch is a two way setup that swaps between interior and dash lights. When my switch quit (as they do - its a Lucas switch) I replaced it with two narrower switches to separate the two, making a new switch panel from aluminium.

Thanks everyone for the info. Sounds like the door switch thing might be more hassle than its worth.
After being out camping on the weekend, I'm thinking about putting a central switch on the cubby box so that it can be switched on from either the driver or passenger side.

I replaced my interior light with a light from a VT commodore which has a broad spread light plus two map lights. I intend replacing the bulbs with LEDs from HK.
