    Well...the defender is still going...sortoff

    To date have sorted
New axles and drive flanges...HEAPS better
    New factory floor coverings
Fitted stereo from the rangie..gee 4" speakers rock
Brass bleed plugs in radiator and thermostat housing..fun when they seize and shear off..

    Still to do
    Replace dipstick tube
Replace top radiator house..bracket on the waterpump has chewed into it almost all the way through !!!
Radiator flush/rodding...gets up to 3/4 on the temp guage on the hwy
Drivers door skin to fit once the lock is sorted

Now the fun parts where some help would be appreciated

It has developed a very bad case of stopping and starting whilst driving..engine cuts out..starts again...cough splutter, starts...stops
So far I have removed the turbo timer and the remnants of the immobiliser......hopefully this may fix the problem..if not I guess its filters, sedimenter thingo and lift pump gauze filters etc.

Now while removing the imobiliser i came across a terminal block behind the dash which looks it is supposed to have a relay in it, except it has a red jumper wire fitted(see pic below)

    ...Aircon???..relay??..any thoughts?

And the factory canopy..what a work of art..does anyone have some pics of where all the straps and ropes tie off to ???

    Gday Nelo

Cannot help with the terminal block, but in regards to the old girl starting and stopping check the wire on the top of the injector pump for the cutoff switch.

Sometimes the terminal can get crap under it or could be lose, i have in the past bumped this and car would not start took me a day to figure it out and also another time the car stalled on the wife on a roundabout while 7months pregnent all because I bumped this wire the day before.

    crimp loose

    Hi All

That crimp connector and the one on the starter solenoid from the switch wire do get loose on their wire's, in time. So it's best to replace them if they are becoming dodgey.

    Cheers Arthur

Yeah Im thinking more and more that its the solenoid...though the sedimenter had heaps of crud in it..which is its job after all I suppose.

This morning after I removed all the dodgy immobiliser and turbo timer it stopped again in a mates driveway...so still no closer to a solution

I've given the connection a good wiggle and cleanup...here's hoping it works and i don't get stuck half way to the pistol club tomorrow!

Woah almost forgot about my thread!

The catches were brought from Industrial Rubber in Perth, p/no EB400-1 tight and left, striker EB400-52. Still sitting in the back of the work ute and havent got around to fitting them yet

Overheating has been sorted with new Britpart radiator..so I thought, until the viscous hub died

Currently fitting a set of 285/75 Federal muddies on 8inch -25 rims..rims I managed to get off Gumtree in Adelaide for $300(thought $150.00 in freight booked up to work)

Pics of the wheels and tyres to be uploaded tomorrow, as well as everything all set up for our camping trip up towards Balladonia this weekend

This is where the RELAY DIM-DIP (R126) would go if it had one (not installed on Aussie LR's) it would originally have had a dummy relay which was just a short circuit in a square red box. Either leave it as is or cut the two red/blue wires from the socket and solder them together for a more reliable solution.

Well time for another update... After taking the 130 for a swim amongst the rocks on the beach, bending a rim a trailing arm and seeing how far underwater rover headlights work things have progressed slowly

After a good bath and lots of crc ...up on stands it went

Wheel bearings, and brake pads to start with
Remove sill panels so I can fit some sliders
Let's get handbrake light and diff lock switch working
Remove drivers side floor and tunnel
Oh look rust in the footwell.. Add to list of things to do
    .....and insert a month break
Wife decides on trip to the Rock later this year
Tells me to get car fixed and buy what I need
    Spend up big on eBay
As expected.. Sea water and starter motors don't agree.. Nor do alternators... So both of them needed rebuilding....
    Hmm now there's a squeak
    Replace bearing in tensioner
Silicon hoses ordered so let's remove and flush intercooler
Hmm radiator might need to be checked
Water pump pulley bit wobbly... Better change that and the p gasket
What the hell... Let's check the timing belt...waaaaay overdue
Waiting on parts... Let's check valve clearance..all ok
Heater core needs to be replaced so let's pull that out..and yes I have aircon
Passenger side footwell bit rusty... List getting longer
Foam collapsed in seat backs...so out they come
The underseat storage is really quite tight for 2 batteries and storage... Let's deepen them.. So out the seat box comes.....after removing tailshaft and handbrake drum to disconnect handbrake

Make mental note.... Pick 1 thing to fix at a time !!!!!
