EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE GAUGE - PUMA

    Hey guys,

I have recently completed some performance upgrades to the PUMA.

Despite being assured that these modifications will not cause any EGT problems, I would feel better having an EGT gauge fitted so I can monitor it for my self.

Has any body installed this gauge or had one fitted ?

If so, is the sensor before or after the turbo ?

How is the sensor fitted ? (drilled and tapped or other)

Any advice, photo's (particularly of the sensor) or comments are most welcome.

    Cheers
    Grant

    good idea

before is better the common agreed max is 750c. There can be between 100 and 200 c drop aross the turbo so your playing a guessing game if you put it down stream.

Drilled and tapped in the manifold or a hole is drill in the dump pipe and a nut is welded there.

Any advice, photo's (particularly of the sensor) or comments are most welcome.

    Cheers

    Hey Benny_IIA,

    Thanks for your input,

I have been thinking of an exhaust up grade, probably just a de-cat pipe and possible removal of the centre muffler.

Do you think this is the way to go ?

    Cheers

I have the Madman EMS system which monitors EGT, coolant temp & level, oil pressure, transfer box oil temp, voltage. Everything has an alarm level which you can set and will go off as soon as the threshold is reached.

It fits nicely on the Puma dash as well:

Hi Naks, hoe gaan dit my jou? - just to be clear what we need to buy to match what you have - it would be the EMS 2, the long harness, and the Puma kit?

Total cost excluding shipping is: R3706 - or $512 AUD approximately?

    Thanks

    Iain

Iain, yep, that sounds about right. Just be aware that to mount the EMS2 in the dash like I did will mean drilling a hole the size of the EMS2 in the dash!

You also cannot measure both the transfer box temp and the engine oil temp, I chose the transfer box since coolant temp and oil pressure are already monitored.

Just sent these guys an E-mail
    Nata Enterprises
Asking price, availability, shipping cost etc.
Their link is on the bottom of the 'Madman' web sites contact page.
Their 'Nata' web site doesnt show a unit for the Puma's. Hence the E-mail
I you guys want I'll post what they send back to me?
    Cheers
    Craig

There has been a lot of discussion on the forum about where a Thermocouple Sensor should be located, ie upstream or downstream of the turbo. Have a look at this web page for an explanation and other useful info Thermocouple Sensor

The majority of sensors will be drilled and tapped.

depending on how much you want to spend.

    On budget:
There are lots of companys doing de cats and mid pipe replacements (td5 alive, bas, terrafirma etc)

    No budget:
I ran a 3" mandrel bent system on my last defender (td5) and will be putting the same on my new td5 90. may do 2.75"
