    replacing 200tdi conrod?

Last weekend my son 'managed' to fill his 200tdi engine with water.
Today we have removed head, and discovered that piston 3 and 4 do not travel past the head like #2, #1 may be also an issue.

This means that it will be necessary to replace the conrods.
Pulled off the sump, and ladder frame looks to be restricting access to the rod retaining bolts etc.

Will it be necessary to remove the ladder frame before we can extract the pistons etc out the top?

I am hoping this has happened to someone else and you can help me avoid removing the engine from the 110.

According to the WSM, once you unbolt the oil pump, the ladder frame just unbolts. If the sump came off, I can't see why the ladder frame can't too.

As to removing the offending pistons, look for ridging at the top and hone it down before removal - makes removal heaps easier in situ and less damage to the cylinder walls in getting the piston out.

I've done a re-ring in situ- one of the redeeming features of a LR - plenty of space to work under in
