The thing that gets me is you ask any van owner about towing vehicles and they all say big engines are best, the 200 series being the pick but then they go out on the open road and sit on 80 because they can't afford the fuel. Pat
The engine in that Amarok is the one out of the European Golf GTD (diesel Gti). It is has an insane amount of torque for a 2 liter engine (170PS or metric horsepower and deep in the 400Nm's torque on the European spec one). It's apparent all to do with the super high pressure fuel injection. Driving it nicely (and unloaded) it is rumoured give you 20km/liter or 5liters/100km at a steady 120km/h
Australia and America is really the last bastion of big engines and Europe is completely moving towards small high spec ingines that are essentially disposable and can be 95% recycled at the end of it's reasonably short expected lifespan.
Obviously this sort of thinking is no good out here, but unfortunately R&D is done with those parameters in mind.

Hi Mick
I'm on my second set of mats, worn a hole through the drivers one in each set but kept them in the shed as spares. So I just attacked them with some large tube patches. Worked a treat and good or another 5+ years, they are fantastic, fit perfectly, easy to clean an shake the sand off.
When do you get the new beast?
MJ
Should be flying up to brisbane later this week, just trying to line up a way of getting to maroochydore from brisbane then driving it home, so hopefully should have it for next weekend but i dont want to bring it on the beach run, need to run it in a bit first![]()
Mick don't go the icom! Go with GME I hav had all brands and currently have the icom can't remember what model it is at the moment the one that is all in the hand piece ...and on average the GME is the best....
As for egr I don't know what affects it has on the computer being all electronic controlled but tombie will know??
As for driving the isuzu perenties were these army owned or sivilian ?
Strange when LRA did not even know anything about the new 2.2 Defender coming out, I was only talking to bruce Lyton about this a few weeks ago, and they had never heard that this was happening, so much so, a number of people, both there and Oz wide ordered a 2.4 Defender, but will get. 2.2 Defender instead, with no warning from there dealer. The next build for Australia is later this month, so these will be 2.2's. There's still a large number of 2.4s out there at the dealers, seems a lot of 90's and a few 130 chassis cabs.
Matt, the Icom is the best... 400pro or the comercial version, with the programing cable you can crank these up to 35-45watt out put power
EGR can be turned off the in tune, i am thinking about getting a Bell Auto services tune with the flash unit, to flash the stock tune, stock minus EGR and tweaked tune at will.
Yes, when Simon told me about mine, he told me he had others to inform but thought there opinion would be different to mine and they would be happy to have the 2.4.... to motor itself sounds good just the DPF sounds like a bitch of a thing.
