What about a standard channel on the UHF (say channel 20) to say hello whenever you see someone from here. Most of the guys around here are good at waving, I am currently teaching little SWMBO to drive and she get's "it" more than her mother does.

Hi Jimb,
Its only happened to me a couple of times - usually out west away from town. I'm convinced some disco owners have been reading this thread though because I had a silver Disco wave at me quite happily this afternoon on the drive back from work - almost missed him because it was a split second before we passed. I did a funny sorta half arm out window wave because I was so shocked - then I felt guilty for not being prepared lol.
I like Ezyrama's idea of a standard UHF call channel that we monitor - perhaps channel 40 since its sort of the standard truckie / highway call channel??? Haven't kept my UHF on normally but now after reading these comments I reckon I'll keep mine on Ch40 just in case someone says hi - don't wanna miss it
Have a great day everyone!

P.S. I think this forum is turning me into a Landy tragic... :P

Look at the title of this thread. It's the Defender wave people, the DEFENDER wave. That disco/rangie lot have been trying to make it the 'Landy wave' for years but will never be successful and I'll tell you why, because to most of the people driving those 'other' Land Rovers its just a car.
By extension, also includes series and county, grandfather and father, its all family. The Defender nomenclature is only due to volume.
Defender snobs unite. Down with the 'Landy wave' heretics.

I have to disagree . . . . We should encourage camaraderie across the LR brand. Yes the wave is dominated by the Series through to Defender models of LR but in my humble opinion we should welcome all LR owner/drivers into our small 4x4 community and encourage the exchange of a friendly wave. 👋✋👋✋👋✋👋✋👋

gosh some of you defender drivers are landrover snobs!! not wanting to wave to us disco owners! we all own and drive a landroverso why should the rest of us not in deefers miss out? im waving to ALL of you in defenders, rangies, discos etc and NO ONE WAVES BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was in my sisters freelander the other day and waved to a defender and no wave back
i get a lot of disco people dont wave as they dont understand the whole landy thing. they just have them for a tow vehicle. but that shouldnt taint the rest of us who love landrovers! i confess i was slow to wave to a nice fellow disco the other week, i was too busy looking at his tyres haha! but i did wave just after he had half gone past!
i also do not agree with the majority of the 'other lot' being just a vehicle, yes there are a large number who are that way. but there are a heck of a lot more who are not. a hell of a lot of 'other lot' owners are in here, in this thread, on the WHOLE forum! heaps at stuff like british car days, more discos on show there. so to suggest most of them only have another vehicle is just a lame excuse. not everyone can afford a defender. i cant. but i love my landy anwyays because its a landy. it still goes where yours goes. i love defenders too. so stop being too stuck up and wave to us in other landrovers!!!!!!!!! we have one common love. i always thought its the nice people that own landrovers, but i question that now if you simply wont return a wave because its not from a defender. how selfish and stuck up is that? its jsut a wave for godsake, jsut a friendly gesture from one landrover lover to another. just to say 'hey hows it going fellow landy driver, we love it too'
