It's funny how things change, GB. My area is popular with weekend riders, with most stopping at the local rubbity, for a palate cleansing beverage. Some are beautiful restos, but most are Harleys.
Now, most of these Harley riders would appear to be well-to-do, educated types, who seem to think it is necessary to dress like a 1%er i.e. facemask with Skull and Crossbones.
It also appears that most of them belong to the MLC MCC......................................the 'Mid-life Crisis Motorcycle Club'.
It stands out like doggies' which riders have years of riding under their helmets.
I would love another motorcycle, but my dear wife, who has worked in Triage, ER and ICU, put a lid on that notion years ago.
Back on topic, perhaps the 'Defender Wave' has changed a bit, with a lot of current owners having a different mindset to days of yore?
For what it's worth, I got a return wave from a 'New' Defer yesterday and I was in my Nipponese 'tilly!
'sit bonum tempora volvunt'
Well now. I got a flash of lights from an oncoming, red Defender at traffic lights at Enoggera today. I gave a friendly wave in response.
I'm assuming that it had nothing to do with the fact that there was a white 110 behind me.![]()
'sit bonum tempora volvunt'
I got a wave from a Ceswick green white roof 110 yesterday as we passed shoulder to shoulder in a narrow Balmain St in a thunder storm.
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
Wave from a Perentie in south Windsor this morning :-)
Cheers

I'm happy to report that the belief that the wave is dead is exaggerated
Today, out of four Defenders, three returned waves. Surprisingly given that I drive a L663 two of the waves were from Classics. Not surprisingly only one of the two L663s returned the wave.

I got asked today if I would wave at discoveries in the defender. I was kind of stumped. I don't think it's ever happened to me, or perhaps I wasn't watching for it. I reckon I would.

I do get some other Discos who wave. Rarely does a Deefer. They nearly always waved at the SIII though. Small boys, pretty women, Patrol drivers, most old school LR drivers will wave at the OKA. It's all a little beneath the drivers of Range Rovers, except for some Classics. LandCruiser drivers simply don't see you.

I seem to rarely see Landrovers these days (or at any rate recognise them). The ones I do see tend to be Discoveries, and they rarely wave back. On the other hand, on the open road, I tend to wave at anyone.
Went to an auction this morning - only other vehicle I saw on the road (in 20km each way) was a four wheeler with a trailer feeding horses (and with a 4yo sitting on the tank in front of the rider). This was where the road goes between the house and several small paddocks as it goes through a farm.
The auction (held monthly) was a bit of a fizzer - and perhaps because of the fuel prices (price of diesel in Dubbo this morning was $2.654 to 279.9). Bids were very low in general (except of course on a few lots I wanted!).
