I've now driven 90's for the past 18 years and I've owned 5 over that period. There is unfortunately no legal way other than either the right hand size wheel arch or the underside of the two seat boxes to carry extra fuel. There is no space for more than 55 litres between the rear chassis members, so there is very little option for improvement there on a 90.
I've also seen the "home made" fuel tanks at a Belgian Land Rover meet and they are definitely not legal over in Europe and they'll never pass Australian regs. I'm not sue what local law enforcement's view would be on a 100 plus litre of flammable liquid inside the passenger cab (regardless of venting), but that would be a major no no in most countries.
The only options are therefore either the 2 Dolium tanks (35 and 45 litres) with their bespoke fillers, although I think they only import the right hand side one to Australia or the right hand wheel well one featured on a thread last week.
The only other option and one I've used on many occasions, is to carry jerry cans on the roof rack. The 90 will carry 4 (80 litres) in two double packs without any real effect on the centre of gravity, especially when the car is packed for touring. This is obviously not for everyone as its not easy to load the cans after filling them and siphoning the fuel with a piece of hose is not the most pleasant thing either.
I read a while back that Daniel from Mulgo might have a system for using the Dolium setup without cutting holes for new fillers and I'll definitely be interested if anyone (Daniel himself maybe?) knows anything about this option.
I'll do that this week for you Mike.. although I'm always terrified to let it go much past the buzzer and was only saying to my hubby yesterday that as soon as the light comes on I am searching for a garage because the car seems to run a little more sluggish and it feels like it really is at the bottom of the tank.. :oQuote:

I had one of the Dolium 45L tank installed under the drivers side.
I'm averaging about 850km with the two tanks.
I dont transfer any anything until the warning light comes on.
Can someone tell me what their average kms on their main tank when the warning lights lit up?
