Thread: Maximum Increase to County track width

Not to sure about Victoria, however in Qld maximum track increase for a solid axle 4wd is 50mm, maximum for a 4wd with IFS etc is 25mm.

As far as I know track can be increased by 50mm (25mm per side).

My Std. county rims are 5.5 inch rim 33mm pos off set,the disco rims are 7 inch rim 33mm pos off set, so the disco rims should make your turning circle bigger.
Is the track measured centre of the tyre or outside rim?
So a 7 inch 25mm pos.offset rim should be about 25mm out wider than Std county and 8mm inbound more than Std and 10mm less than a disco rim.

Offset on std County rims is 20.6mm

Offset on D1 Rims is 33mm

Am currently running 235 85 R16's on D1 rims on the 85 County , giving an increase in width per wheel of 12.4mm or an overall increase of 24.8mm.

The 33mm offset D1 rims certainly seem to help with turning circle.

I have a set of Tubeless Wolf rims with a 20.6mm offset but would like to have them redone out to 33mm.

In accordance with the latest Vicroads regs and also insurance compliance what is the maximum overall track width increase acceptable?

You have decreased your track width.

The offset for the rims you quoted are a positive offset. You have gone from a standard county rim that is 20.6mm away from the center line to a rim that has a 33mm offset.

draw a line 200mm long then mark the centerline at 100mm (Assuming we are using the drivers side, so the right side is to the out side). From the centerline measure out to the right 20.6mm and 33mm this would be where the rim bolts up to the hub.

So as you can see if you where to bolt the disco rim upto the hub there is less sticking out thus reducing your track width. Hope this helps.

Track is measured at the centre of the rim (tyre).

I think you have your offsets mixed up.

Standard county rims are 33mm offset, more offset
Wolf Rims are 20.6 less offset

LESS offset rims stick out further & give a wider track.

I have some Series 3 5.5" reversed rims with 16mm offset & they stick out even further & give EXCELLENT turning circle, were great off road rims for trials events in the day. Will offload them soon.

To prove it get a flat edge across the diameter outside of your rim, like a yardstick etc,
and measure down from that to your drive plane, Even tho Wolf rims don't look it - they do actually already stick out further than county rims , And the inside is further toward the drive plane too ..
