300 Tdi water temp. sender
With a big trip coming up I thought a VDO temperature gauge might be nice, however there are a couple of thread options to choose from before I order the sender. So does anyone know what the thread in the head is to save me taking the stock one out and disabling the old girl any longer than I need to?
I thought there was a thread on this topic not long ago but my search skills are obviously lacking.

1/8-27 NPTF
The standard VDO sender
The mechanical versions thermowell screws straight in.

Thankyou Rick, I had planned to use the electric because it'd be easier to get the dash back out if required? Not too sure about accuracy?

I went mechanical eight or nine years ago as it 'fixed' the earth problem in one fell swoop
Never had a problem getting the dash out, but I did rub a capillary through once on an injector line which meant a new gauge.
(cheaper than fixing)
Now run better secured and with it inside split corrugated tube.

So a VDO electric one including sender is $70 and a mechanical is $90. I prefer the greater dial coverage on the mechanical so maybe I'll go mechanical and change to mechanical oil pressure while the dash is out.

I forgot that the wider scale range was another reason I went mechanical.
I only recently removed my mechanical oil pressure gauge as it was supposedly only a temporary thing from way back when I lunched the big ends
(I pinched an old Smiths gauge out of an old race car)
