Hi i've seen pics in LRO mag , of disco 3 v6 in a defender , its a shoehorn job. Not the way i'd go .Now the ford/mazda TD5 thats what Land Rover should be useing now, instead of the Ford Transit 2.2 ..It's only amater of time before kits come out , if they havent already ...Brings back memorys of Holden red motors ...:):)
it would be great to have a 2.7/3.0v6 or the 3.2 Ford engine but at $5000 just for the ECU harness that is just BS! :mad:
It may not make it economic but for a custom ECU it's not that outrageous. I assume they have to use a highly programmable unit as due to the low volumes it probably doesn't pay to develop a discrete chip.Quote:

Still, I see where you're coming from. Dropping a TDV6 into an old TD5 is likely to cost more than a second hand Puma.
Bell/ Neve Overland Puma 3.2 Puma conversion @$30K dollars with heavy duty Transit/ Ashcroft gearbox conversion. However it does look factory apart from the extra cylinder, probably what they should have offered factory! I do not honestly think I could spend that amout on a $40K vehicle but there are now a few running around. Maybe over here there are other $:D effective solutions.

yes i get that, but I bet your 911turbo is worth more than my aging defender......then add engine/tranny and conversion costs....shame because maybe just maybe the 2.7 teritory or 3.2 fordmazda engines may become econimicly viable....the ecu etc probably not...Quote:

I did look semi-seriously at doing this conversion for my D1. I'd found somewhere in the UK selling a 2.7TDV6 for 500pounds, and had priced up all the other parts. Then the realisation kicks in that you would only be the owner of an overpriced curiosity, and it would be better just to buy something that had that engine in it as standard.
If it's something that you will keep and run into the ground, then perhaps it is worth it, but you sure as hell wouldn't get your money back:o
Thats the same with almost ANY modification you do. A suspension upgrade and some bigger tyres+ wheels will cost you $*000 but you will be lucky if you increase the value of your 4bie by 20% of that cost as most buyers think you will have driven it harder or depending on the scale of the mods you reduce the number of people who want a car modified that way. The only thing spoken about here that would come close to holding a majority of its cost is the auto tranny in a defender as the number of people who cannot drive a manual increases yearly.Quote:
