Havent had any problems as yet, BUT having said that, I havent done anything that would completely submerge the base of the snorkel, but definately splashed over it.

Put it in myself last August (2012), used plenty of sikaflex, I do know others on here that have decided that the system is nigh on impossible to seal completely with the factory piping and have re-run their own.

Why not get a Mantec one, they look far better than the safari ones. And are OEM spec too.

I was also searching the forums for what snorkels fit the newer model defenders.
Anyway I never found a definitive answer I was looking for on any the forums, but I though I would post on what I did find out.
After ringing around this is what I found:
- Original Snorkel from Landrover is ~$1000 to fit yourself
- Safari Snorkels Model numbers SS581HF are the new model for the defender, although the older model SS580HF does also fit. SS581 is about $330 and SS581HF is about $470 to self fit.
- Airflow, aledgley don't have one that fist the newer model defender with 2.2l diesel engines.

I have recently fitted a Mantec air intake to my 2013 110. As per Juddy's comment, I personally prefer the Mantec style - I think it looks more 'traditional'.

As for being 'waterproof', while I'm no expert, from my research it appears to be affected by:

1. How good you seal the air intake to the extenal body
2. How you fix the internal tubing to the airbox. As someone mentioned many people make their own. There is also someone on here who fabricates a great looking solution (just cant remember their details) which replaces the factory LR internal tubing.

Also the Mantec took me about 45 minutes to install (including stopping for a coffee).

I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it gets to Defenders and pretty much all Mantec's gear is the go for me. They used to supply most of the kit for the Camel Trophy (link for those too young to know) and all the kit for the G4 Challenge (a link for those interested...).

The Land Rover raised intake is designed to allow solids and liquids to pass, rather than be forced induced into the air system, worth a thought. I have a L/Rover unit on my 2012, 130. I have a Safari in my 1998, 110. I have not had an issue with either of them, but they are different too each other. the 98 allows water, sticks/ twiggs etc to release underneath. I don't think the newer vehicles have the capasity to do this.
