Overall I don't think 60kg makes much difference to a Defender's economy either. Tyre size and pressure would easily consume more energy. Things like snorkels and roof racks all bit by bit increase the economy.

Personally I prefer no bar. I love that clean look. But the old skippies, and the occasional tree seem to get in the way of a 130.

There is an alloy fabricator in Ballina who does beautiful welding. He is a real talent. He also likes doing different jobs. He may be interested in a custom alloy bar. If you keen PM me and I can chase down his details.

Thanks for the input , I understand how good steel is but in my mind alloy is the go . My last 4wd was , ( yes gave it a go and found out never again ) Nissan Patrol with a factory alloy bar . All of my toejoes had arb's , my first addition 110 with the range rover v8 I went to arb in Sydney back in 1985 and they fitted it one sat morn . Have traveled many k's and would love to now the weight diff ? If you could send me the details would be great . I hate computers and all the little details of messaging .

Check out Boomer Bullbars and look at the buffalo bar for a defender, It's a big 5 poster with twin scrub bars that go back to the sidesteps and it's made of aluminum but I'm pretty sure it would handle a roo at 110Km/h or more!

I'll go with a steel bulbar.Ive got an ARB bar on my defender thats survived a few hits one been pretty hard.Plus it'll be cheaper then a aluminium bar.

See if Smartbar makes one for the defender yet . By far the best for big hits .

Try these guys, their a bit closer to you and may be able to help. As said previously, it has to be "approved", and yours being fairly new, I would think warranty/insurance would be a major consideration to adhere to as well.
