Hi all, there's a lot of interesting reading relating to leaking vacuum pumps on the 300tdi. The question I have is: has anyone used the non-genuine Chinese sourced pumps (I think anything without a Wabco tag would be Chinese sourced) & if so, what is the success rate? Thanks, Rob.

we bought a non-ome one from karcraft (made in india?) and fitted it about 20000 km ago - so far, so good

at karcraft's recommendation we used 2 gaskets to position it out marginally from the camshaft

I wonder if this simple addition would have overcome some of the wabco failures.

I didn't hear that from Karcraft, but I have found that using two gaskets is the way to go.

    An update.

Popped the bonnet on Friday and said to SWMBO, "we're taking your car to town"

One of the welsch plugs has gone ta ta from the vac pump, oil everywhere.
Luckily the engine is only down 1l or so.
Lobbing into a mates this morning to turn a plug up from some aluminium stock to get going again.

Found a 22mm welsch plug, applied Stag and carefully tapped it in, (the casting is aluminium and thin) we'll see how it goes.

No,didn't know about the two gasket trick at the time and it was all supplied by Karcraft, but the new gasket was pretty thick.
