At the moment all it is doing is not immobilising the vehicle. It was locking the starting process after 15 seconds or so, with key in or out as designed. However after the dash came out for the air con sensor it doesn't lock anything. The doors lock with the fob and that's about it. To be honest it doesn't worry me one bit how many LR chuck in under warranty. But the hassle of it failing around town is a pain, and on the annual hols in the middle of the Madigan is just not on.

Apparently the air-con sensor is up to version 4, so hopefully that common failing part wont see V5. I live in hope the immobiliser is similar.

MMM:(, sounds like a right pain!!!:mad:. IIRC you can get them to switch off the immobiliser part of the alarm, and just have central locking. This is a good idea if travelling remotely IMO. I turn off the passive immobiliser function too so it doesn't cut in after a certain time if you have the key out and don't lock the evhicle. It is after all a Lucas 10AS system same as D1 and Td5 Defender....

The EGR fault, does it set off the engine check lamp or is it just noisy in operation?

Thanks for the advice JC. There is a whole new world in that link, glad the TD5 buys are along for the ride.
The way I have read things perhaps the Arm on Lock setting, with Plip and Key immobilisation added will allow me to open and lock the car with the fob or key; and the ECU will be a central locking device only with no facy stuff.

The egr is just noisy. It's not at the croaking chook stage yet but certainly isn't that barely audible saka shaka shaka.
Last year when it packed it in a was struggling to get 300km out of a tank when I was expecting at least 400 to 450 at least for what I was doing. Not good when you go where there are no fuel stations.

The 10AS ECU is a very easily programmable and usually reliable unit. It has been around in our vehicles since 1996 on disco 1, and td5 defender, freelander etc. The Good bit is that you have seen you can turn off the passive arming and all that so you have keyless entry etc without the flashing lights and horn noises.

I have only ever encountered 3 or 4 units that won't accept changes written to them, most are no problem at all.

Easy to program remotes to aswell:)

The EGR can be cleaned if it is just noisy but functioning correctly, but if it is under warranty then what the heck, get a new one:D
