110 td5 total los of drive????

No one has mentioned the output shaft of the gearbox that slides into the transfer box... That one that gets starved of oil just like the drive flanges and thus strips... Just like the drive flanges. Worth popping the round tin (alli on earlier boxes I think) cover off and having a look see b4 spending time and money pulling boxes out... Just a thought. Also worth popping all the rubber drive caps off and marking them with chalk then attempting to drive it to 100% confirm they are all ok. Stranger things have happened like a drive flange stripping, and the CDL not properly engaging due to lack of use. Good luck!

my logic says that its a shaft pluss somthing in transfer case , ive never had a clutch issue with no warning and then theve stuck on not stuck unengaged.
im praying its stuck in neutral and has a flogged out drive flange ,broken shaft or buggered diff center. Anyhow pulled spare cv's shafts and diff center .Unfortunatly i didnt think to take the handbreak off before trying to turn the rear prop shaft.
still cant comprehend how a clutch can stick unengaged or disintegrate with no warning when the car has been on the tar only scince they replaced the gear box

If you can turn the front prop when both wheels are on the ground the issue has to be in the axle. Does the prop spin when you have it in gear with the engine running? Sounds like a CV to me.

very unlikely to be an issue in a TD5. Almost zero I would say unfortunately.

Well assuming the transfer and gear box rebuild is actually a rebuild of the original units and not a second hand replacement.

Unfortunately if it isn't something as simple as a selector fault on the transfer case, you could have a broken mainshaft.

well if is a buggered ouput shaft or main shaft the mec will be sending it back to the reco.ers and refiing it for free its less than 10 000 kms old and 5 months scince fitting it...not a cheep reco eiher and has a warnty..what i cant understand is hes pointing to a clutch issue
posibly cause he cant see how it would fail so soon afer he fited it
going in to grill him again tomorow , were sranded a 40 km round trip from the suppermarket/chemist/drs etc and ive had to do 11 rips to oupaitents for injectable pain killers for the missus in 3 months not to menion the dosens of speialists visits so is realy left us deep in he ****...

ned i wasnt game to grab a prop shaft wih he engine running but heres certainly eiher a shaft or cv issue as well, question is would that cut drive to the rear driveshaft and case damage to the t case?
i recon id have noticed a cv though so perhaps drive flange stripped

the drive flange is a major posibiliy as when i pulled the caps of one was very dry and crappy looking , enough so that if id had i of road i would have noices as i fill he caps wih a bit of grease o try and kep moisture out ...one looked normal he other not in the least wih grease hardened and verry dark{burnt}
its also ossible that the tc linkages havent wirked sinse the box went in , when i got it home the difflock light wasnt going on and they ajusted the switch . posibly it was the linkages back then as ive had no ned to lock it what ih being surounded by ire all summer and illness etc

If the handbrake is on the front tailshaft turning you have two problems the difflock is not engaging( Probably linkage) and you have a front axle problem.

stripped driveshaft and a worn sleave on t c linkage
motto...never go into town without the tools...lucily i had spares in the shead and it wasnt costly to get it fixed...
ahh and carry a spare drive flange

Brilliant! Glad it was just a drive flange and CDL out of adjustment. Been there with mine. Wheel bearings with play will shorten the life of the outer drive flanges drastically. If you do a lot with the vehicle, it might be worth considering changing the hub seal and running oil in the wheel bearings as opposed to the grease setup on the later vehicles... Cheers for now!

I wasn't suggesting holding a prop on a vehicle with the engine running, that would be silly :D
It is a good way of finding out where your problems lie though whether its a particular axle, if your diff lock had engaged properly you could have probably driven it home :)
