Puma - overfill of fuel tank?

The pipes can age and crack, mine did this and I gave the servo a lot fuel back all over the floor.
Had to take tank out to change the rubber pipes. Its a pain to do.

I had a problem with my tank leaking fuel every time I filled it all the way up. I took it in for a warranty repair, and they claimed that it was the breather hose that had split at the clamp at the tank end. They replaced the hose, and all fixed.

Oh, something I noticed was my Puma tank pressurizes during use. I dunno if that it normal or a buggered cap. The vent hole is in the cap, and the tank breather runs from the tank to the filler neck. If your breather goes anywhere else, there is something wrong. My D1 and old Series units all did the same.

Interesting thought... that the fuel cap breather could be blocked. The cap is open to the external environment and mine is often caked in dust.

Not sure through which orifice it breathes but maybe I'll take a look and try and clean it out somehow.

My clear plastic breather line with the filter on the end is always full of diesel

My 130 2012 overflowed out of the "hockey stick" breather tube.
Filled it fast with a hiflo nozzle. (and the motor was running):o That was once a few months ago and hasnt done it since (see post this thread Nov 14)

I've always used these...

Defendoor :: Fuel Filler Recess Cover for Land Rover Defender - Order form

No dust or dirt in the recess. I bought 5 last time I ordered, 3 for mates and kept a spare. At $15 ea including shipping they are certainly worth the effort.

Thanks for this info Sam , I can see by the shape where It fit's , does It just clip in ? If so does It come out easy , as there doesn't seem to be anywhere to grip It !!.. cheers Jim ;)

I have been using one for over a year now. Yes easy to get off, keeps all they grud out. I was a little concerned if it would stay in when driving over hours of corrugations, and the answer is yes it stayed in.
Good product and cheap.

Hi Tim,

Yes as Tony posted, the cover just clips in there and stays put. The cover has a double lip with protruding "bumps" that basically forms a male to female bond on the round edge of the recess. I think the absence of aerodynamics sort of helps to keep it there... :D

Works on pretty much all Defenders.

Although it wont solve problems with the breather it is good to keep the filler clean

My 2011 90 Puma used to do the same thing if I filled it to the brim
