Thread: Schooled on Wheels and Tyres today

What knocks me for 6 is that they can look you in the eyes while stating it as a forgone conclusion with out cracking up in laughter!!! They have to go to special training to do that I reckon! I was told not that long ago that 235/70-16's were no longer made and if they were were not suitable to put on the Discovery!

25 offset is pretty wide, around zero works well with 255/85-16's on a 110. With 25's I think you'd be outside the standard flares.

Pretty sure King wheels do Landy steels and should be available through any decent tyre place. You might have to find their catalogue and stick your finger on it to get your locals to believe you though.
Here locally I recall someone buying a set for their 110 for less than $100 each. They had a decent load rating too.

I put 7x16 0 offset steels on the 110 last year and they work well They are "Gecko" brand, Proper load rating and all 110dollar I think.

King wheels make them, and from the rest of what you've been told, go elsewhere, they are obviously morons and have no interest in their customers.

235/85-16 = 235/85-16?! Obviously that's the same size!!

But a 255/85-16 is a 33"

235/85/16 is the same rolling circumference as 265/75/16 (both standard Land Rover sizes - if not specifically in Australia) and as Will said the 255/85/16 is significantly bigger.

Any 5 stud wheel with a 6.5" PCD will fit a Defender as it hasn't got massive brakes or anything odd to interfere with the wheels.

I personally run 265/75/16 BFG muddies on ZU wheels with a 16mm wider than standard offset and they fit just nicely under the wheel flares.

All the major tyre brands make the first two sizes, but the 255/85/16 is a little scarcer and harder to find, even in the popular brands.

I bought a set of 16x7 Dynamic steels rims in black with 0 offset for my Puma Defender - I run a set of Toyo AT's at 265/75/16 on these for road wheels and I have a set of ZU rims with 265/75/16 KM2's for trips and tracks. but ring them as they do more sizes for Defender than listed plus they will deliver them to your local tyre fitter too. Mine were $110 each.
